ICC To Hold Meeting On CT 2024 Hybrid Model: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has called for a meeting to address the usage of a hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 as they decide where the tournament will be played.
CT 2025 is set to be played in Pakistan. This will be the first ICC competition in the country since the 1996 Cricket World Cup, jointly hosted with India and Sri Lanka. Over the past five years, national teams have returned to the country to play international cricket, which stopped after the 2009 attacks on the Sri Lankan team.
However, a massive wrench was thrown in the proceedings when BCCI announced that the Indian Cricket Team would not be travelling to their neighbors in the West to play the tournament. This is a decision taken by the Indian government with player and personnel safety in mind.
The Men in Blue have not travelled to Pakistan to play cricket since the iconic 2005-06 tour. On the other hand, the Men in Green have come to India on several occasions to play in ICC tournaments.
But now that it is India’s turn to do the same, BCCI has refused to send their team to Pakistan, be it because of the aforementioned safety concerns or the frosty relationship between the two countries.

Now, the ICC has convened a meeting to discuss the matter. It is scheduled to be held online on Friday, November 29, and will most likely see a verdict be reached on the topic.
The last time Pakistan hosted a multi-nation tournament including India, that being the 2023 Asia Cup, a hybrid model was used, which saw the matches being played in Pakistan, except those including India, which were played in Sri Lanka.
But now that the hybrid model is being put up as an option again, the Pakistan Cricket Board has refused and is adamant about hosting the entire tournament. However, other nations have thrown their names in the cap to host some of the matches under the hybrid model. Some of the nations and cricket boards that are interested are the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA). They will likely be a part of the upcoming meeting too.
Despite the PCB and its chief Mohsin Naqvi’s resistance, the hybrid model will most likely be the most popular choice to hold the Champions Trophy, partly because of the massive power India and the BCCI hold in world cricket and the ICC, with former BCCI secretary and ACC President Jay Shah now being the Chairman of the BCCI.
Champions Trophy 2025 is currently planned to kick off on February 19 and end on March 9. The eight teams that qualified for the tournament are: Pakistan (host nation), Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa.
