Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis held a contract signing for Aldis’ SummerSlam match against GUNTHER. Pearce confirmed that if Aldis signed the contract, he would give up his role as SmackDown General Manager and WWE would not be responsible for what happened in the match. Aldis accepted the terms and signed. GUNTHER mocked Aldis, saying he was jealous of his success and promised to end his career. Aldis fired back, claiming GUNTHER was the one afraid of the match. The segment ended in a brawl, with GUNTHER kicking Aldis low and powerbombing him through the contract signing table.
Brie Bella vs Lainey Reid
Brie Bella defeated Lainey Reid after overcoming an early attack from Fatal Influence. Before the match, Jacy Jayne blamed Brie and Paige for costing her a spot in the Women’s Championship ladder match and promised Reid would embarrass Bella. Brie fought back immediately and took control before the match officially started. Reid later gained the advantage, but Brie rallied after the break and scored the win with a surprise roll-up. After the match, Nikki Bella returned and attacked Jacy Jayne with the Rack Attack 2.0. She then announced a six-woman tag team match against Fatal Influence for SummerSlam.
Chelsea Green vs Kiana James (Interim WWE Women’s Championship Qualifying Match)
Chelsea Green qualified for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship ladder match at SummerSlam by defeating Kiana James. James controlled the early action, taking the fight to the floor before keeping the advantage inside the ring. Green fought back with a series of arm drags and a side Russian legsweep, but James answered with a Codebreaker. Kiana looked to finish the match, but Green escaped from a fireman’s carry. Chelsea then hit the Killswitch to score the pinfall and secure her place in the ladder match at SummerSlam.
Cody Rhodes and CM Punk Heated SummerSlam Face-Off
Cody Rhodes and CM Punk had a tense face-to-face ahead of their SummerSlam title match. Cody admitted Punk was the only WWE star who made him doubt himself and said he needed to beat him for personal reasons, not just the championship. Punk replied that Cody could not handle facing someone he respected and claimed he would break his heart at SummerSlam. The two also looked ahead to teaming together before the event while promising to bring their best. The segment ended with Cody playing his entrance music after Punk mocked him as “Dusty’s kid.”
Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax (Interim WWE Women’s Championship Qualifying Match)
Charlotte Flair qualified for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship ladder match after defeating Nia Jax by disqualification. Jax controlled the match early, but Flair fought back after the break. The match changed when Jade Cargill and her allies appeared at ringside, distracting both competitors. Charlotte fought off B-FAB and Michin before returning to the ring. Jade then punched Flair, causing the disqualification and giving Charlotte the victory. After the match, Cargill hit Flair with Jaded. An angry Nia Jax destroyed the announce desk after losing another opportunity because of outside interference.
Damian Priest vs Finn Balor vs Royce Keys vs Trick Williams (WWE Undisputed Men’s Championship #1 Contender’s Qualifying Match)
Finn Balor earned a place in the WWE Undisputed Championship No. 1 Contender’s match by winning a chaotic Fatal 4-Way against Damian Priest, Royce Keys, and Trick Williams. The match was interrupted several times by fighting between Solo Sikoa, The Usos, LA Knight, and Jacob Fatu at ringside. Priest even left the ring to join the brawl before returning to the match. Trick and Keys both came close to winning, but outside interference stopped their chances. In the closing moments, Balor hit the Coup de Grace on Priest to score the pinfall and advance to face Sami Zayn at SummerSlam.
