All The Talking Points of Australia WTC Final Squad, Australia has revealed the group of players who will be taking on the early stages of their tour of England, giving a glimpse of their strategy for the ICC World Test Championship final against India.

As per Australia WTC Final Squad, Australia has recently announced a 17-player touring party, and their selections and omissions seem to hint at their strategy for defeating India in the WTC final at The Oval, as well as their plan for the first two Ashes Tests against England at Edgbaston and Lord’s.

Australia WTC Final Squad: Faith In David Warner, Though It Comes With Insurance

As anticipated, David Warner has been selected for the upcoming matches after being absent from the last two Test matches against India due to a concussion and a hairline fracture of his elbow. However, two other left-handed openers, Matthew Renshaw and Marcus Harris, have also been included in the team.

In Australia WTC Final Squad, David Warner’s form was back on track when he scored an impressive 200 runs against South Africa during the Boxing Day Test match last year. However, it is worth noting that this is the only innings out of his last 19 Test matches where he has managed to score more than 50 runs.

During the 2019 Ashes, the experienced opener struggled to perform, scoring only 95 runs in 10 innings. Stuart Broad dismissed him seven times by bowling around the wicket and swinging the ball away from the left-handed batsman.

In recent Ashes tours, the Australian team has found batting in England to be quite challenging. Only Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne from the 2023 squad have managed to maintain an average of over 30. David Warner is the next best player for Australia with an average of 26 in England, and he is expected to join Usman Khawaja, at least for the time being.

Renshaw has presented a strong case for his selection through his impressive performance during the Australia A tour of New Zealand and his recent consistent domestic form. On the other hand, Harris is currently playing for Gloucestershire as part of his late bid to secure a spot in the tour.

In his first County Championship appearance of the season, Harris scored 59 and 148 against Glamorgan, which further strengthened his case for selection. Additionally, he had scored 601 runs across nine matches in the previous season’s Sheffield Shield.

Despite the weaknesses exposed in 2019, Australia did not seem to show much interest in opting for a right/left combination, as evidenced by the exclusion of Cameron Bancroft from the squad.

Travis Head Has Licence to Thrill at No.5

Travis Head’s impressive performance at the top of the order in India is commendable. However, he is expected to move down to No.5 and play a similar role that previously helped him secure the sixth position on the MRF Tyres ICC Test Batting rankings.

In Australia WTC Final Squad, Travis Head demonstrated his resilience against top-line bowling while opening in India. He notably scored 90 runs in the second innings of the Ahmedabad Test and helped secure a victory at Indore with an unbeaten score of 49*.

At 29 years old, Travis Head’s Test average has now reached 45.40. This impressive number is largely due to his change in approach, where he now puts more pressure on the opposition through his attacking stroke play.

During Australia’s last home Ashes campaign, the left-handed Travis Head dominated England with scores of 152 and 101, with the former being at a run rate of over one run per ball. He continued his impressive form with two scores in the 90s and a knock of 175 against the West Indies at the beginning of the Australia 2022/23 summer. Later, he scored three fifties against South Africa.

It seems that Australia has a fixed batting order from No.3 to No.7, as Peter Handscomb has been left out. Travis Head may have the opportunity to bat with the same freedom as Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have shown for England.

Mitchell Marsh On Ice As A Nod To Cameron Green?

As per Australia WTC Final Squad, The selection of Mitchell Marsh in the 17-man squad indicates that Australia will persist with a batting all-rounder for their upcoming three Test matches. This decision provides the selection panel with a sense of relief, as they now have two reliable options for the position.

Cameron Green, who stands at two metres tall, has emerged as a strong contender for the title of the brightest young all-rounder in the game. He has already made a name for himself by scoring a century in India and taking 23 Test wickets, including a five-wicket haul in last year’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa. Cameron Green will be one of Australia WTC Final Squad.

The selection panel has been searching for a competent player for this position for a long time. Therefore, they have kept Marsh in Australia WTC Final Squad on stand-by in case Green gets injured. However, it is important to note that Marsh is also a match-winner in his own right.

Marsh is a valuable asset to the team, having scored a century in his only Sheffield Shield appearance for Western Australia this season. Additionally, his impressive performance in the recent ODI series in India further highlights his importance to the team. He can be considered a luxury for Australia WTC Final Squad.

The credentials of the 31-year-old are well-established, with his impressive 5/46 performance in the final Ashes Test four years ago. Moreover, his Player of the Match performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in 2021 is a testament to his ability to perform exceptionally well under pressure.

Fast Bowlers Tipped To Fly

As per Australia WTC Final Squad, The exclusion of Michael Neser, who was considered by some as a potential addition to the squad for fast-bowling protection, suggests that there may not be any concerns regarding the fitness of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Both players have been absent from several Test matches due to injuries – Hazlewood with an Achilles injury and Starc with a finger injury. However, Hazlewood is expected to regain his fitness during the IPL, while Starc emerged from the India tour without any apparent injuries.

As per Australia WTC Final Squad, Mitchell Starc, who only played in the fourth and fifth Test in 2019, is expected to perform exceptionally well in Australia’s six matches in the UK. He needs no motivation to unleash his skills. On the other hand, Hazlewood is known to excel in English conditions and has taken 36 wickets at an average of 25.83 across eight Test matches, which is not surprising.

In accordance with the Australia WTC Final Squad, Captain Pat Cummins is expected to form a fast-bowling trio with the addition of the two players. Scott Boland is also likely to perform well in English conditions and will be a valuable backup for the group.

Lance Morris, a promising tearaway quick who has been around the Test squad, was unable to be considered for the squad due to an injury.
