India WTC Final Squad 2023, One of the big names has been recalled by India in their squad of 15 players, but they still have some tough decisions to make for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia.
India to Back Spinners or Quicks
India faces a crucial decision on whether to include one, two, or even three spinners in the WTC final, given the traditionally swing and seam-friendly conditions in England.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel have made it to the squad after their crucial contributions in the recent 2-1 Test series win against Australia on home soil. They will be looking forward to securing their positions at The Oval.
India may find it challenging to overlook the spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja, who together took 47 wickets and demoralized Australia during the Border-Gavaskar series in India before the WTC final. However, the decision may be made for India if a green-top is provided.
Axar took three wickets at an average of 62 in the series against Australia. However, he performed well with the bat, scoring 264 runs at an average of 88. He can be relied upon to provide additional batting support.
Left-Arm Pacer a Left-Field Option
Although India will feel the absence of Jasprit Bumrah due to his ongoing recovery from a back injury, they still have a wide range of fast-bowling alternatives to choose from.
The top pacers chosen for the team are Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav, with Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat expected to be the reserve options.
As per India WTC Final Squad 2023, Shami stood out among the Indian fast bowlers in the series against Australia, taking nine wickets. He also has the added advantage of having played in a WTC final before, having faced New Zealand in 2021.
Siraj was unable to participate in the crucial match, but he made a strong comeback by taking 18 wickets in the five Tests played against England in 2021 and 2022. Yadav has also made a significant impact with his recent performances.
As per India WTC Final Squad, India has given themselves the option to add more variety to their pace attack by including medium pacer Jaydev Unadkat.
Despite having played only two Tests, one in 2010 and the other against Bangladesh in December last year, the 31-year-old left-arm bowler would bring valuable diversity to the team’s line-up.
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Yadav have been the preferred right-arm quicks. However, India may consider a less conventional option for the India WTC Final Squad decider by looking for a left-arm bowler.

White-ball Wonder Fails To Take His Chances
In India WTC Final Squad 2023, Suryakumar Yadav, who started his career late, has now become the top-ranked batsman in the ICC MRF Tyres T20I Batting Rankings. He has also become a regular member of the India ODI line-up since his debut in both formats in 2021. However, he is still striving to cement his place in the Test team.
In February, the first Test against Australia marked the 32-year-old’s delayed debut. However, despite scoring eight runs in India’s sole innings, he was excluded from the remaining three matches of the series.
In the three ODIs that followed the Test series, Yadav’s chances were hindered instead of helped, as he scored three consecutive ducks.
Yadav has not been included in the India WTC Final Squad for the winner-takes-all WTC final due to his inability to capitalize on recent opportunities in all formats. However, his past performances on the biggest stages indicate that he will have more opportunities in the future.
Rahane Re-enters, Though How Will The Batting Order Be Comprised?
Ajinkya Rahane has been recalled to the India squad after being absent from the Test side since January 2022. However, his selection in the playing XI is uncertain due to the collective strength of the batting group.
There is a discussion about who will open with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming game. If Shubman Gill is chosen to join the captain at the top, it is probable that Rahane will move to the middle order, and KL Rahul will not play during India WTC Final Squad.
After scoring a century against Australia in Ahmedabad, Gill is currently in good form. However, from an outsider’s perspective, he appears to be more adaptable to various batting positions. This means that there is a possibility of both Rahul and Gill playing, while Rahane may have to sit out and be a substitute.
India WTC Final Squad 2023
1. Rohit Sharma (c),
2. Shubman Gill,
4. Virat Kohli,
5. Ajinkya Rahane,
6. K L Rahul,
7. KS Bharat (wk),
9. Ravindra Jadeja,
10. Axar Patel,
11. Shardul Thakur,
12. Mohammad Shami,
13. Mohammed Siraj,
14. Umesh Yadav,
15. Jaydev Unadkat,
It is improbable due to the challenging nature of keeping in England, but India may take a bold decision to give the wicket-keeping gloves to Rahul in India WTC Final Squad. This would result in KS Bharat being left out and both Rahane and Gill being included in the team.
Despite taking all of this into account, there is still a conversation to be had regarding the No.6 position.
During the Border-Gavaskar series, Ravindra Jadeja batted for the home team but only managed to score 135 runs at an average of 27 across five innings. In English conditions, there might be a conversation about shifting Jadeja and KS Bharat down a position to strengthen the batting lineup for India WTC Final Squad.
