Only miss the sun when it starts to snow. When Michael Rosenberg aka Passenger wrote the song Let Her Go, he wouldn’t have imagined that the Indian cricket team fans would use it link the state of India’s bowling attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
It took only an underpaid West Indies batting unit to remind the Indian fans of the importance of Jasprit Bumrah and what an irreplacable asset the 32-year-old fast bowler is for the men in blue.
The ongoing West Indies tour of India 2026 has produced high-scoring fixtures, with the West Indies giving a much stronger fight than many would have imagined.
In the ODI series, the West Indies registered scores of 295, 405, and 352, and in the four T20Is so far, they have racked up 171, 252 in 18.3 overs, 209, and 247.
Their latest exploits came on Wednesday in Hyderabad, where Shai Hope, the visiting captain and opener, recorded his fourth century of this tour, to go with one fifty.
Hope held his end throughout the West Indies’ innings after India skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. The right-hander blasted 102* off 50 balls, walloping nine sixes in his entertaining knock.
At the other end, Shimron Hetmyer thumped 33 off 12, and Sherfane Rutherford hammered 49* off 26 balls as the West Indies finished only three runs short of 250.
IND vs WI: Fans Miss GOAT Jasprit Bumrah As Bowlers Concede 247 In 3rd T20I
With the bowlers getting carved around the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the fans reminisced about the T20 World Cup semi-final earlier this year against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In that semi-final, Jacob Bethell’s stunning assault had brought the required equation for England down to 69 needed off 30 balls.
Then entered Jasprit Bumrah. The speedster conceded only 8 runs in the 16th over and 6 runs in the 18th over. India escaped by only 7 runs to enter the final, where Bumrah bagged the Man of the Match award.
Jasprit Bumrah is on a rest from these games against the West Indies, having participated in the T20I series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games last month.
Bumrah also lifts up his teammate bowlers’ performance when he is playing: Bumrah’s feat factor forces the batsmen to go even harder at the other bowlers, which in turn helps them get wickets.
India are also unbeaten when defending 200+ totals with Bumrah in the team in T20Is but have lost plenty of matches without him despite piling huge first-innings totals.
Netizens on Twitter hailed Bumrah’s greatness and his significance to the Indian team:
Bumrah will next be seen in action on the New Zealand tour. He is expected to be rested from the five-match T20I series but is likely to feature in the five-ODI series and the following two-match Test series.
Meanwhile, following Sanju Samson’s blazing half-century, India have lost their grip in the chase, having lost half their side with the target still far away. At the time of writing, India are 168-5 at the 15-over mark and need 80 runs off the 30 remaining deliveries.
