Gujarat Titans are an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The team joined the competition in 2022 and won the championship in its debut season under captain Hardik Pandya. They reached the final again in 2023 and became one of the newest franchises to establish themselves as regular contenders for the IPL title.

The team plays its home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and is known for its combination of Indian international players and overseas stars. Shubman Gill became captain ahead of the 2024 season, while Ashish Nehra continued as head coach. Gujarat reached the IPL final again in 2026 but lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets, leaving the franchise with one championship in its first five seasons.

What Are Gujarat Titans?

The GT are a professional T20 cricket team that competes in the IPL, India’s premier franchise cricket tournament. The Ahmedabad-based franchise was introduced ahead of the 2022 season, when the IPL expanded to include two new teams.

The franchise represents Gujarat and plays its home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, one of the largest cricket stadiums in the world. GT are owned by a consortium led by CVC Capital Partners and made an immediate impression by winning the IPL title in their first season.

Their early success continued in 2023, when they reached a second consecutive final. Although they lost that match to Chennai Super Kings, their performances established the Titans as a competitive franchise. After missing the playoffs in 2024, Gujarat returned to the knockout stage in 2025 and reached another final in 2026.

History of Gujarat Titans

GT were officially announced as the Ahmedabad franchise in February 2022. The team was one of two new sides introduced for the 2022 IPL season, alongside Lucknow Super Giants.

Hardik Pandya was appointed captain, while Ashish Nehra took charge as head coach. The team assembled a squad featuring players such as Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, and David Miller and Mohammed Shami. Gujarat quickly became one of the leading sides in the tournament, winning the title in its first season.

In the 2022 final, Gujarat defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pandya contributed with both bat and ball, while the team successfully chased a target of 131 to secure its maiden championship

Gujarat continued its strong run in 2023, finishing the league stage near the top of the standings and reaching the final for a second straight year. However, Chennai Super Kings defeated the Titans in a rain-affected final to claim the championship.

Hardik Pandya left the franchise before the 2024 season and returned to Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gill took over as captain, but Gujarat struggled to maintain its previous consistency and finished eighth, missing the playoffs for the first time.

The Titans recovered in 2025, finishing third in the league stage before losing to Mumbai Indians in the eliminator. They then reached the 2026 final after winning Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals, but Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated them in the championship match.

Gujarat Titans IPL Titles

GT have won one IPL title, which came in their inaugural season in 2022. They also finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2026.

Their first championship came after a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 final. Gujarat restricted Rajasthan to 130/9 before reaching 133/3 in 18.1 overs. Hardik Pandya scored 34 runs and took three wickets, earning the Player of the Match award.

The team came close to winning a second title in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings in a final decided by the final delivery of a rain-affected chase. In 2026, Gujarat scored 155/8 in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who chased the target down with five wickets remaining.

Gujarat Titans Season-by-Season IPL Performance

GT have competed in five IPL seasons, from 2022 through 2026. Their record includes one championship, two runner-up finishes and three playoff appearances after their debut season.

The Titans began their IPL journey with back-to-back final appearances in 2022 and 2023. Their eighth-place finish in 2024 was a setback, but they returned to the playoffs in 2025 and advanced to the final in 2026.

Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026

GT finished second in the 2026 league-stage standings, earning 18 points from 14 matches with nine wins and five defeats. Their net run rate of +0.695 placed them behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who also finished with 18 points.

The team was led by Shubman Gill, with Ashish Nehra serving as head coach. Sai Sudharsan and Gill were central to the batting lineup, while Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder formed important parts of the bowling attack.

Gujarat lost Qualifier 1 to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 92 runs after RCB posted 254/5. The Titans responded by beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2, scoring 219/3 while chasing 215. That victory sent them into their third IPL final.

In the final on May 31, 2026, Gujarat batted first and made 155/8. Washington Sundar scored an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled against RCB’s pace attack. Royal Challengers Bengaluru reached 161/5 in 18 overs to win by five wickets, denying Gujarat a second IPL title.

Gujarat Titans Team Owners

GT are owned by a consortium led by CVC Capital Partners, an international private equity and investment advisory firm. The franchise was established after the IPL introduced two new teams ahead of the 2022 season.

The team was named Gujarat Titans after the Ahmedabad franchise was officially announced in February 2022. Its identity reflects the state of Gujarat, while its home base in Ahmedabad connects it with one of India’s major cricket centres.

Gujarat Titans Captain and Coach

Shubman Gill is the captain of GT, while Ashish Nehra is the head coach. Gill took over the captaincy before the 2024 IPL season following Hardik Pandya’s move to Mumbai Indians.

Gill has been a central figure in the franchise’s batting lineup since its first season. Nehra, meanwhile, was part of the coaching setup that guided Gujarat to the championship in 2022 and the final in 2023. The pair continued together through the 2026 campaign, when Gujarat finished as runners-up.

Gujarat Titans Home Ground

GT play their home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The stadium is one of the largest cricket venues in the world and hosted the franchise’s title-winning final in 2022.

The ground is a key part of the team’s identity, providing a home venue for IPL matches and other major cricket events. Gujarat also played the 2026 IPL final at the stadium, where they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Key Players in Gujarat Titans History

GT have featured several important Indian and overseas players since their entry into the IPL. Some were part of the inaugural title-winning team, while others have played leading roles in later campaigns.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was Titans’ first captain and led the team to the IPL title in 2022. His all-round performance in the final against Rajasthan Royals helped secure the championship, and he also guided Gujarat to the final in 2023. Pandya left the franchise ahead of the 2024 season and returned to Mumbai Indians.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been one of Gujarat’s most important batters since the franchise’s debut. He played a major role in the 2022 title-winning campaign and became captain in 2024. Gill continued to lead the side in 2025 and 2026, helping Gujarat reach the final again in the latter season.

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has been a key member of Gujarat’s bowling attack since 2022. The Afghanistan leg-spinner provides control in the middle overs and can also contribute with the bat. He was part of the title-winning squad in the franchise’s inaugural season and remained an important player in the 2026 campaign.

Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan developed into one of Gujarat’s leading batters after making his IPL debut with the franchise. He scored 759 runs in the 2025 season and won the Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. His partnership with Gill became an important feature of Gujarat’s top order.

David Miller

David Miller played an important role in Gujarat’s early success, particularly during the 2022 title-winning season. The South African batter is known for his ability to finish innings and handle pressure in the middle order. He helped the Titans reach the final in both 2022 and 2023.
