Anvay Dravid and Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid and son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, respectively, have both been picked in the India Under-19 squad for the home one-day series against Australia Under-19, scheduled for mid-September.
Starting September 18, India under-19 will host Australia under-19 for three one-day matches, which will be followed by two red-ball multi-day games.
17-year-old Lakshya Raichandani has been named the captain for the one-day series and Nagaland’s Yashbardhan Chauhan the vice-captain, while their designations are reversed for the red-ball matches.
Last month, Anvay toured Sri Lanka for youth under-19 matches, where he scored 87 in the second one-day game. Anvay is also the team’s wicket-keeper.
Aaryavir first broke through on the scene in 2024 when he hammered 297 against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy. He has recently featured in the Delhi Premier League for the West Delhi Lions.
While both Aaryavir and Anvay are part of the one-day series squad against Australia A, both of them have not been selected for the red-ball series against the same opposition.
Captain Raichandani stamped his authority last month on the Sri Lanka tour, where he ended up as the leading scorer in the two-game four-day series with 307 runs that he piled up at an average of 153. He registered a knock of 207 in Galle and 100 in Colombo.
Raichandani has also already featured in four first-class matches for Uttarakhand, in which he averaged 44 with the help of three fifties.
Yashbardhan, meanwhile, scored 201 runs across the two red-ball matches in Sri Lanka and also claimed six wickets.
The India vs Australia Under-19 one-day matches will be played on September 18, 21, and 23, all in Rajkot. Then, the first four-day red-ball game will also be hosted in Rajkot from September 27, while the second four-day match will be played in Ahmedabad from October 5.
