Abhishek Sharma may be only 26 years of age and he may still get slack from Yuvraj Singh for not breaking his 12-ball half-century record, but the talented left-handed Indian opener has stormed into the list of batsmen with the most T20I centuries rapidly.
Abhishek blew New Zealand away with a breathtaking knock in the IND vs NZ 3rd T20I in Wellington with a sensational knock. While chasing 199, the southpaw clattered 113 runs off only 38 balls, having notched up his century off 35 balls.
Abhishek has played 69 innings so far in his career and has smoked four centuries to go with 14 fifties. He’s scored 2240 at a belligerent strike rate of 196, making him the most destructive batsman of the past few years.
No batsman in the history of T20I cricket has scored over 2000 runs at a strike rate better than Abhishek’s 196. In fact, the second-best on this list, among those from Full Member nations, is former India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who was a pioneer of sorts in the Indian cricket team and had a strike rate of 162 in his career of 107 innings.
If you’re wondering about the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, the former West Indies opener featured in 79 T20I matches for the West Indies, in which he made 1899 runs at a strike rate of 137. Gayle registered two centuries and 14 half-centuries in T20Is.
Abhishek’s ton against New Zealand was his fourth in the shortest format while wearing the India colors. Having made his T20I debut in 2024, following the T20I retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – India’s openers at the T20 World Cup that year – and the left-hander has quickly climbed the ladder of most centuries in T20Is.
Three other batsmen have recorded four T20I hundreds, and only two have more than Abhishek.
Which Batsman Has Hit Most T20I Centuries?
Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell hold the record for the most T20I hundreds, with five each. Following them are Phil Salt, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Austria’s Karanbir Singh.
Barring any injury, it is very likely that Abhishek will go to the top of this list sooner rather than later, given his astounding hitting form and the fact that he currently plays only one format for India, so there’s no question of fatigue or workload management for the opener.
While Abhishek has four centuries in 69 T20I knocks, Rohit retired with five hundreds in 151 innings, and Maxwell played 118 innings. Salt, though, has been quicker than Abhishek in ramping up hundreds: he currently sits with four centuries in 60 T20I innings.
List of batsmen with most T20I hundreds ft. Abhishek Sharma:
- Glenn Maxwell – 5
- Rohit Sharma – 5
- Phil Salt – 4
- Karanbir Singh – 4
- Abhishek Sharma – 4
- Suryakumar Yadav – 4
The IND vs NZ 4th T20I is going to be another great opportunity for Abhishek to add to his centuries list as the match will be played at Eden Park in Auckland, which is one of the smallest grounds in the world in terms of boundary sizes and dimensions.
There is no stopping the Abhishek juggernaut.
