In women’s One Day Internationals, Smriti Mandhana made history by breaking the record for the most ODI runs scored in a calendar year. She surpassed Belinda Clark’s 1997 record of 970 runs on October 9, 2025, in India’s ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. Mandhana reached 972 runs in just 17 matches when she hit a six off Ayabonga Khaka in the eighth over.

Before the match, Mandhana had 959 runs in 17 ODIs at an average of 59.93, with four centuries and three fifties in 2025. With that six, she moved to 972 runs in 17 matches, overtaking Clark, who had scored 970 runs in 16 games. Smriti now leads the list with 973 runs and could become the first woman to score 1000 ODI runs in a single year if she adds at least 28 more runs. 

Mandhana has been in excellent form throughout 2025, scoring two centuries in the ODI series against Australia in September, including a 50-ball hundred in Delhi. The 29-year-old batter from Maharashtra is India’s second-highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs, with 4932 runs in 111 matches.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur also has records within reach. She needs three sixes against South Africa to break Deandra Dottin’s record for the most sixes in Women’s ODI World Cup history and 84 runs to complete 1000 runs in World Cup matches.

Smriti Mandhana has created history by scoring the most ODI runs in a calendar year in women’s One Day Internationals. She needed 12 runs to surpass Clark’s mark of 970 runs from 1997. Mandhana is also just 81 runs away from completing 5000 career runs in women’s ODIs and is India’s second-highest run-scorer after Mithali Raj. Mithali holds the record for the most runs in women’s ODIs with 7805 runs, followed by Charlotte Edwards (5992), Suzie Bates (5896), Stafanie Taylor (5873), and Mandhana herself, who currently has 4932 runs in 111 matches.
