MS Dhoni Retiring After IPL 2025: While MS Dhoni remained coy over whether he will play in IPL 2026 and extend his IPL career, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain did confirm that he is not retiring right now.
Dhoni gave his fans who want to see him continue playing for CSK a huge sigh of relief and something to cheer about after the GT vs CSK match when he announced that he is not retiring currently, and neither does he plan to as of now. Dhoni gave a similar answer to last year: that he has plenty of time on his hands until the auction comes around to decide on his future.
CSK ended their worst-ever season—they finished in the last position on the points table for the first time in their IPL history—with a morale-boosting consolation win over Gujarat Titans (GT) by a significant margin of 83 runs, GT’s biggest-ever defeat in terms of runs.
I have four or five months to decide: MS Dhoni Retiring After IPL 2025
In his last post-match presentation ceremony of the season, MS Dhoni joined Harsha Bhogle once again, as has been the case over the last few years, and he was asked about his future. Dhoni said that he is in “no hurry” to make a decision on retirement and will look at his fitness to make a call ahead of the auction.
Dhoni said, “I have four or five months to decide [whether to play or not]. It’s professional cricket; you have to be at your best. It’s not performances. What’s important is to see how much hunger you have. I have enough time to decide. I’ll go back to Ranchi. I’m not saying I’m done; I’m not saying I’m coming back. I have the luxury of time. Will think about it and then decide.”
Dhoni will turn 44 this July and will be nearing the age of 45 by the time the next season comes around. He’s currently the third-oldest player to play in the IPL, behind Brad Hogg (45) and Pravin Tambe (44).
Talking about the GT vs CSK match, Dhoni called it a “perfect” game for CSK, for whom this was only the fourth win of the season. CSK posted 230 batting first, with Devon Conway scoring 52 off 35 and Dewald Brevis smashing 57 off 23 balls.
GT lose their first three wickets for only 30 runs, and the game was effectively sealed in the powerplay by CSK. Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad took three wickets each.
