Cristiano Ronaldo Leads: Know Who Is in the All-Time Ballon d’Or Vote

All-Time Ballon d’Or: Cristiano Ronaldo is leading Lionel Messi in a special Ballon d’Or fan poll. The poll is called B.O.A.T. (Ballon d’Or Of All Time). It was launched to mark the award’s 70th anniversary. The Ballon d’Or 2026 ceremony will be held at the London Palladium on October 26.

The poll lets fans vote online and each vote costs €1. Fans can vote as many times as they want by paying for each vote. Only players who have won the Ballon d’Or at least twice are included. Each winning year counts as a separate entry.

Ronaldo’s 2008 win came when he played for Manchester United. He scored 42 goals in all competitions that season. He helped United win the Premier League and the Champions League. He also won the European Golden Shoe.

Messi’s 2012 campaign is remembered for his record 91 goals in a calendar year. That record still stands. Earlier, Spanish newspaper Marca reported Ronaldo’s 2008 campaign led with 62%. Messi’s 2012 and 2023 wins were at 13% and 9%. The October 20 update showed Ronaldo’s lead growing to 75%.

The poll includes 10 players who have won the Ballon d’Or at least twice. These include Alfredo Di Stéfano, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Marco van Basten, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kevin Keegan, and Brazil’s Ronaldo Nazário. Messi has eight entries because he has won eight times. Ronaldo has five entries.

Voting closes at 11:59 PM Paris time on October 27. Results will be announced on October 28. The poll is separate from the actual Ballon d’Or 2026 award, which will be presented on October 26. Because fans can pay for multiple votes, the results show total votes cast, not the number of individual fans.
