RCB Qualifies For WPL Playoffs: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Mumbai Indians in their most recent Women’s Premier League match to book their place into the playoffs for the first time in team history.
It was Match 19 out of 20 of the league stage of WPL 2024, and RCB was in a precarious spot going into their last league match against defending champion Mumbai Indians. While RCB was in third, which is the last playoff spot, a big defeat here might crash their net run rate below fourth-placed UP Warriorz.
RCB Qualifies For WPL Playoffs
It was the Royal Challengers who won the toss and decided to bowl first in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Mumbai Indians got off to a decent start, with the in-form duo of Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana scoring 43 runs in six overs before the team lost their first wicket. But, from this point, the Mumbai-based franchise lost the plot and completely collapsed.

From 65/2, the team went to 81/6 and 113/10. MI lost their last nine wickets for just 48 runs. Australian star all-rounder Ellyse Perry had a fantastic night with the ball, finishing with the figures 6/15. Suffice it to say it was an easy chase for RCB.
But the Bengaluru-based franchise did not get to a good start themselves, losing both their openers including captain Smriti Mandhana for just 25. When Sophie Devine was bowled, RCB looked in trouble at 39/3, at which point Ellyse Perry came to the rescue once more.
Perry, along with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh strung together a 74-run partnership, scoring 40 and 36 runs respectively to take their team across the finish line.
For her exploits with ball and bat, Ellyse Perry was named the Player of the Match as RCB finished the chase in just 15 overs.
With this win, RCB have booked their spot into the playoffs and will most likely face Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.
Tonight, league leaders Delhi Capitals will take on bottom-of-the-table Gujarat Giants in the final league match of WPL 2024. This match will most definitely not have an effect on the league table.
