The schedule for WPL 2027 has been announced. The competition will begin on January 14th, with the final being played on February 7. Today, we will take a look at the entire schedule of this competition.

The Women’s Premier League is arguably the most high-profile women’s franchise cricket tournament in the world, only compared in stature to the WBBL and the Hundred Women’s Competition.

Started in 2023, we are now staring ahead to the fifth edition of this tournament, which finally brought women’s cricket in this country to a similar standing to its male counterparts. Five teams have played all seasons of the WPL so far, and here they are –

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, sister team to the two-time defending IPL champions, are the defending WPL champions. RCB-W, captained by the now Indian Cricket Team skipper Smriti Mandhana, lifted the WPL trophy in 2023 and 2026, winning the league before the men’s RCB side won the IPL.

Next up, the Mumbai Indians, yet another team with a sister-team in the IPL. While the Indian Premier League side is the joint-most successful team in league history, the MI-W is the joint-most successful team in the WPL, having won the title twice themselves. Captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indians were the inaugural Women’s Premier League champion, winning the inaugural league in 2023 and then winning it again in 2025.

The last WPL team with an IPL counterpart is the Delhi Daredevils. And despite never winning any trophy, they are the most consistent team in WPL history, reaching the final in all four seasons so far but failing to take the necessary final step.

The Gujarat Giants are next. This is one of the two teams in this league to have never even made it to the final. The Giants’ best performance in the WPL has been their two third-place finishes in the 2025 and 2026 seasons, where they lost in the Eliminator to the eventual champions.

Finally, the epenthetically named UP Warriorz, the team that has found the least success in league history. The Warriorz have only made it to the Eliminator once, back in 2023, when they lost the knockout match to the Mumbai Indians. Over the last two seasons, the Lucknow-based team has finished at the bottom of the league table twice.

The 2027 season of the WPL will see all teams compete in a round-robin style league, with each side facing each other twice. After every team has played eight games each, the first-placed side will automatically qualify for the final, while the second- and third-placed teams will play an Eliminator, the winner of which will be the second team going to the final.
