Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat in the first Test against England at Headingley. They lost by an innings and 103 runs. They were completely outplayed by the hosts. Batting first, Pakistan managed only 171 runs. England replied with 409, taking a lead of 238. In the second innings, Pakistan were bowled out for just 135.

Pakistan have not won a Test match in SENA countries for a long time. SENA stands for South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Their last Test win in SENA came in 2018. They defeated England at Lord’s by nine wickets. Mohammad Abbas was named Player of the Match for his figures of 8 for 64. That was eight years ago.

Since Pakistan’s last SENA victory, Rishabh Pant has made his Test debut for India. In that time, Pant has been part of 10 Test wins in SENA countries. Pakistan are still waiting for their next one. This highlights the contrast between the two teams’ overseas performances.

Pakistan’s Test team continues to struggle. Teams like Bangladesh have won historic Test matches in Australia. Pakistan, however, are still searching for a way to compete in overseas conditions. Their once-feared bowling attack is no longer as potent. Their batting also fails at crucial moments.

Pakistan Set Unwanted Test Record After Crushing Defeat to England

Pakistan became the first team ever to achieve an unwanted feat during their crushing defeat against England in the first Test at Headingley. They lost their first wicket with the team score on zero in both innings.

It is not uncommon for a team to lose its first wicket with the score on zero. However, Pakistan now leads this unwanted list with seven such instances of it happening twice in the same game. England are second with five, followed by Australia with four, India with two, and New Zealand with one.

Pakistan were bowled out for 135 in their second innings and lost by an innings and 103 runs. They had scored only 171 in the first innings. Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, and Ollie Robinson took nine wickets between them. Robinson finished with match figures of 8 for 80 and was named Player of the Match.

Robinson took 5 for 51 in the first innings, and Tongue took 5 for 46. In the second innings, Archer and Tongue each took three wickets, while Robinson took two. In England’s reply, Jordan Cox scored 73, Joe Root 66, Harry Brook 91, and Dan Lawrence 51. England gained a lead of 238 runs.

The win gave England important points in the WTC table. Pakistan dropped below the West Indies and are now at the bottom of the table with a points percentage of 19.05. The second Test will be played at Lord’s starting August 27.
