Josh Hazlewood has become the ninth Australian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets. He achieved the milestone during the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin. He took his 14th five-wicket haul in the match.

Hazlewood joins teammates Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc in the Test-300 club. They are the only bowling attack in history to all have 300 wickets while playing together.

Of the nine Australians with 300 Test wickets, only Glenn McGrath, Pat Cummins, and Dennis Lillee have a better average than Hazlewood’s 24.02.

Hazlewood began the Test needing five wickets to reach 300. He had only played six of Australia’s last 14 Tests due to injury. There was debate about whether he or Scott Boland would play in the opening Test.

He showed his class on a good batting surface. He broke a key partnership on the second morning when he had Mominul Haque caught behind. He also removed Najmul Hossain Shanto for 84 with a beauty from around the wicket.

He took his fifth wicket to reach 300 in his 26th over when Mehidy Hasan Miraz edged behind. He then took his fourth six-wicket haul when he had Ebadot Hossain caught behind to end the innings.

Hazlewood said he does not think about milestones while playing. He said he will look back on them at the end. He added that seeing the other names on the list and playing with three of them is pretty cool.

Josh Hazlewood Takes Six-Wicket Haul to Reach 300 Test Wickets

Josh Hazlewood has become the ninth Australian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets. He achieved the milestone during the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin. The 35-year-old entered the match needing five wickets and took a six-wicket haul to finish with 301 career wickets.

Hazlewood joins teammates Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc in the group of current Australian players with 300 Test wickets. Of the nine Australians to reach the mark, only three have a better bowling average than Hazlewood’s 24.02. Glenn McGrath leads with 21.64, followed by Cummins at 22.21 and Dennis Lillee at 23.92.

Hazlewood had played in only six of Australia’s last 14 Tests before this match. He had not played any Test cricket in the year leading up to the series due to injury. There was debate about whether he or Scott Boland should be selected for the opening Test.

The selectors backed Hazlewood, and he responded with a six-wicket haul. He started the match five wickets short of 300 and passed the milestone in a single innings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s Gritty 65 Helps Bangladesh Take Control Against Australia

Bangladesh scored 426 runs in their first innings against Australia. They gained a lead of 228 runs. On the third day of the Darwin Test, Australia finally ended Bangladesh’s innings. Bangladesh missed equaling their highest Test score of 427 by just one run.

Hasan Miraz played a crucial innings of 65 runs off 154 balls. He held one end together and helped the lower order extend the lead past 200. He formed an important partnership with Taskin Ahmed. He was eventually dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, with Alex Carey taking the catch.

Australia dropped more catches on the third day. Steve Smith dropped an easy catch of Taskin Ahmed. If he had taken it, he would have had 219 Test catches and become the record holder. He is currently tied with Joe Root at 218 catches. Australia have dropped six catches in the match so far.

Hazlewood took all three wickets that fell on Saturday morning. He dismissed Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. With Mehidy’s wicket, Hazlewood completed 300 Test wickets. He became the ninth Australian bowler to achieve this feat. He also took his 14th five-wicket haul.

The foundation for Bangladesh’s big lead was laid by Tanzid Hasan. He scored 101 runs, becoming the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century in Australia. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also contributed 84 runs. Bangladesh are playing a Test in Australia after 23 years and are now in a position to win. Australia were bowled out for 198 in their first innings, with Hasan Mahmud taking 6 for 55.
