Spencer Johnson Personal Life
Spencer Johnson describes himself as a calm and relaxed person, even though he bowls very fast (close to 150 km/h). He says his career took many years to build because he had to keep recovering from injuries and proving himself again.
Early in his life, sport was a big part of his family. His father Greg Johnson played football, and his brothers also played at a good level. Spencer himself was good at both football and cricket. He even kicked over 100 goals in a season as a junior footballer before choosing cricket seriously.
His career almost stalled due to a serious ankle injury that kept him out for around three years. He even lost his contract and had to go back to club cricket, unsure if he would make it again. During that time, he slowly rebuilt himself with strong performances in local cricket.
Another unique part of his life is that he has an Italian passport through family roots, which once gave him a chance to play international cricket for Italy. But now his main goal is clear – he wants to play for Australia.
Spencer Johnson Contract
Spencer Johnson has secured a last-minute IPL 2026 contract with Chennai Super Kings. The deal is worth around ₹1.5 crore (A$255,000).
This comes after a long injury break. Johnson had a back stress fracture, which kept him out for many months. The injury started during his time with Kolkata Knight Riders last season, where he played four matches but struggled, taking just one wicket and conceding runs at a high rate.
His IPL chance comes because Nathan Ellis has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, which needs about three months of recovery.
