The IPL franchises have revealed their set of released, retained, and traded players, and now preparations will be amped up for the IPL 2026 auction, which is slated for December 16 in Abu Dhabi.
Perhaps the hottest commodity in the IPL 2026 auction will be Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.
Green began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2023 and smashed 452 runs at a strike rate of 160, including one century, and bagged 10 wickets. But MI traded him to RCB while they traded in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans.
For RCB in IPL 2024, he had a mediocre season, scoring 255 runs and picking up only six wickets. Green missed the IPL 2025 season when he was part of the RCB setup due to a back injury. Thus, RCB had to release him given his price of INR 17.5 crore.
Green is likely to enter in the IPL 2026 auction, where surely a bidding war will ensue for the Aussie all-rounder’s services. The 26-year-old is growing in stature and is already one of the finest all-rounders in the world across formats.
Let us see which three teams could be desperate for Green’s services and could even push his price beyond INR 20 crore in the upcoming IPL auction.
IPL 2026 Auction: 3 Teams Who Could Spend INR 20 Crore For Cameron Green
Kolkata Knight Riders
No team would be more desperate for a pace-bowling all-rounder than Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after releasing Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer.
It’s possible that KKR might look to buy back Russell and Iyer for a cheaper price, but knowing Russell’s dipping form and fitness from close quarters and that Iyer was not used with the ball last season, they could very well hop on the Cameron Green train and ride on it, given there’s a huge future potential with the young Australian all-rounder.
KKR have a purse of INR 64.30 crore heading into the IPL 2026 auction, the highest among all 10 teams. For a franchise that spent INR 23.75 crore for Venkatesh Iyer in the last auction, it’s highly probable that KKR could go after Green beyond INR 20 crore.
Chennai Super Kings
MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have the second largest purse, INR 43.40 crore. They could be one of the teams looking to purchase Green since they have traded away their two key all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, to Rajasthan Royals and released Rachin Ravindra.
CSK need a gun overseas all-rounder, particularly a pace-bowling all-rounder, given their pace attack at the moment looks lighter in strength as they have released Matheesha Pathirana and Kamlesh Nagarkoti. Green could solve some of CSK’s problems from last season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Can SRH’s already destructive batting order become even more dangerous? Yes, it could if they add Cameron Green to the mix.
SRH have released/traded Mohammed Shami, Abhinav Manohar, Wiaan Mulder, and Simarjeet Singh, and continue to fret over the injury issues of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. SRH have a purse of INR 25.50 crore, from which they could splurge a major chunk on Cameron Green, who has already played a lot with skipper Pat Cummins.
Green has had plenty of success in the top three in white-ball cricket and would further bolster SRH’s marauding batting lineup. SRH’s No. 3 from last season, Ishan Kishan, had a disappointing IPL 2025 season after his first-match century, and the left-hander hasn’t really made a strong statement in domestic cricket either.
