3 Reasons Why India Win Champions Trophy Final: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final will be played on Sunday in Dubai. India defeated Australia in the first semi-final, while New Zealand thumped South Africa in the second semi-final.
India will be on the hunt for their third Champions Trophy title, and New Zealand on their second.
This will be the third time India and New Zealand will be meeting in the final of a senior Men’s ICC tournament. Previously, they clashed in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2000 (then called the ICC Knockout tournament) and the ICC WTC 2019-21, both of which were won by the Kiwis.
IND vs NZ: Here are 3 Reasons Why India Win Champions Trophy Final
1. Terrific form
India are the only team in this competition who have not lost a single game. They clean swept the group stage, with wins over Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand, before defeating Australia in a thrilling semi-final.
New Zealand, who also have played four completed games, beat Bangladesh and Pakistan before losing their last group-stage game to India but recorded a commanding win over the Proteas in the semi-final.
India have all their bases covered in both batting and bowling departments and are the strong favorites for the final.

2. The advantage of the familiarity with Dubai
Many have spoken about India’s apparent advantage of playing all their games in Dubai, as they get familiar with the pitch and the conditions and haven’t had to travel to and fro Pakistan like other teams.
Even pacer Mohammed Shami agreed to this assertion. When asked if India had gained the benefit of playing at only one venue, Shami said,
“Definitely. Because you get to know the conditions, the behavior of the pitch. A lot of things… the way the weather was today—cool—your brain works even more. It can be said that it is a plus point that all your matches have been played at the same venue.”
On the other hand, New Zealand played their first two group games in Pakistan, then traveled to Dubai to play India before flying back to Pakistan for the semi-final, and now have flown to Dubai again for the final.
3. India’s bowling attack is their strength in this competiton
It’s not often in white-ball cricket that we can term India’s bowling attack as their bigger strength in a competition and not their batting. But India’s bowling group in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is unarguably the strongest and most varied of all teams.
Shami (8 wickets) is leading the pace attack, while Varun Chakravarthy (7 wickets in 2 games) has been confounding batsmen since his return to international cricket last year, including taking a five-for against New Zealand in this tournament.
Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have been providing breakthroughs in the middle overs, while Hardik Pandya has taken some key wickets. Kuldeep Yadav has not been at his best – he is returning from an injury layoff – but carries the mystery of being a left-arm wrist-spinner and could be the game-changer in the final, while Harshit Rana played his part well against Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Right now, all odds are stacked in India’s favor ahead of the IND vs NZ, and it would take a shocking collective failure from India’s bowling attack for them to lose the ICC Champions Trophy final this time.
