You have to find solutions: Jasprit Bumrah on bowling to Travis Head
Jasprit Bumrah pointed out that Head comes in to bat after 20-30 overs, and by that time the ball has gotten softer and easier to bat. The senior Indian bowler, though, praised Head for his sensational batting displays.
“The Kookaburra ball, once the seam goes down and it becomes soft, it becomes relatively easier to bat when the wicket is not offering a lot. So then you have to find solutions. How do you make run-scoring difficult? What fields do you want to have? What is an individual’s strength? So it may differ from people to people,” Bumrah said after day 3 of the Brisbane Test.
“We’ve got someone like Rishabh Pant who does that as well. But all of those scenarios are very difficult for bowlers sometimes. Because you bowl a certain number of overs, the ball is not doing a lot. You can’t take an attacking option. So it’s a puzzle that sometimes you can solve. Sometimes, if somebody plays well, you have to take notice of it and you say, ‘well played’.”
Meanwhile, Bumrah took six wickets in Australia’s first innings at the Gabba but didn’t get much support from the other bowlers as the hosts piled up 445 runs. In reply, India lost four wickets for 51 runs by the end of day 3. The match could be heading towards a draw with heavy rain forecasted for day 4, but India have serious batting concerns.
