All Punjab Kings Retentions For IPL 2025: IPL’s perennial bottom-half team Punjab Kings picked a radical yet predictable approach. They only retained two players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, both of which are uncapped. This means they got rid of all of their superstars.
Having retained two players, PBKS have four Right to Match (RTM) cards left. This means that they will certainly go in for several of their former players, albeit if they are not too costly.
With only two players in the team, both of which are uncapped, the Kings have spent only Rs. 9.5 crore. This leaves them with a mind-boggling amount in their purse, which is 110.5 crores.
With a history of going into the auction with a massive purse, bing big players, but still disappointing throughout the season This is the largest purse in the history of the IPL auction for a team. Here are all Punjab Kings retentions for IPL 2025.
All Punjab Kings Retentions For IPL 2025
1) Shashank Singh – 5.5 Crore (Uncapped)
There was some controversy around the Punjab Kings buying Shashank Singh ahead of IPL 2024, as it was reported that the team was looking to buy another player on the same day. And while the franchise has been denying it since, if it was a mistake, it was the best mistake they made the whole season.
The 33-year-old has been a journeyman domestic cricketer for a long time, but his life and career changed when the Kings took on the Gujarat Titans in 2024. While chasing 200 runs, Punjab fell to 70/4 when he walked out to bat. Along with another lesser-known player, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank blew the Titans bowling away, scoring 61-off-29 and winning his team the match. He did quite well in a few more matches in 2024, scoring 354 runs with an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65.
With a solid season behind him, PBKS have backed Shashank Singh. But with him approaching his mid-30s, this might be Singh’s first and last major contract in his cricketing career.
2) Prabhsimran Singh – 4 Crore (Uncapped)
Prabhsimran Singh is a young Punjabi opener who has proven himself on the domestic circuit and is now playing for India A. After years of playing for the Punjab Kings, he has been getting regular playing time in the IPL for the past few seasons, and he has scored 300+ runs in both seasons.
He did not have the best IPL 2024, scoring 334 runs in 14 games with an average of 23.86. Despite that, he was one of his team’s best performers. And his domestic form has shown that he can do well in the IPL.
Having retained him, the Punjab Kings have shown a lot of faith in their young opener, maybe looking to turn him into their very own superstar Indian opener like Yashasvi Jaiswal for the Rajasthan Royals or Shubman Gill for the Gujarat Titans.
Big Players Not Retained
Having retained only two uncapped players, the Punjab Kings have let go of all their big-name players. The two most significant releases are pacer Arshdeep Singh and English all-rounder Sam Curran. Arshdeep has been phenomenal for the Kings for five seasons now, taking 76 wickets in 65 games and even becoming a regular in the Indian T20I team. On the other hand, Sam Curran was once the most expensive IPL player when he was bought by the Kings in 2023. He has been the team’s surrogate captain since Shikhar Dhawan missed most of the last two seasons.
Other notable releases by PBKS are English explosive all-rounder Liam Livingstone, 2024 Purple Cap winner Harshal Patel, No. 1 Test bowler in the world Kagiso Rabada, English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, and promising uncapped Punjabi spinner Harpreet Brar.
