Gambhir Refuses to Take Credit from Samson: Indian cricket coach Gautam Gambhir refused to take credit for Sanju Samson’s revival in international cricket. Samson, who scored a record-breaking century against South Africa in the first T20I match, had given credit to Gautam Gambhir, captain Suryakumar Yadav, and VVS Laxman.

Sanju Samson is at the pinnacle of his form, hitting two consecutive tons, one against Bangladesh and the other against South Africa. With that, he became the first Asian cricketer to score back-to-back centuries in T20Is.
In the match against Bangladesh, Samson had hit five sixes of an over and proclaimed that, given an opportunity, he would play to the best of his abilities. Samson is also the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a hundred T20is. The Kerala-based cricketer also has the most Player of the Match awards for India in T20Is for the country.
Gambhir Refuses to Take Credit from Samson
Even when he is on top of the limelight, the humble Sanju has credited India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and temporary coach for SA series VVS Laxman.
“When you have a supporting captain like Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam bhai and VVS Laxman sir, they all support you during failures,” Samson said.
“The way they communicate with you in your failures is very important. Everyone knows that if we are going through a negative phase, then the player can get lost there,” he added.
“So at that time, I received a lot of phone calls from Gautam bhai and Surya, telling me what to work on. Your spin is a little bit like that. You collect all the spinners in Kerala and practice on rough wickets there. You do this, you do that. So if your Indian team’s captain is calling you and telling you how to practice after a duck, then you have confidence that the captain is trusting you,” he said.
“He wants you to do well. So I think all those small, small things play a huge role, I think, coming back here,” added Samson
Gambhir Refuses to Take the Credit from Samson
When asked about this in the presser before flying to Australia, Gambhir refused to take the credit and instead said that ‘it’s his (Samson’s) ability’.
“Not at all; I think it’s nothing to do with me. I think it’s his ability. It was all about giving him the right number and backing him. I think ultimately it’s his hard work. What he is doing for Indian cricket is just the start; it’s not the end. Hopefully, he can continue taking this form forward,” Gambhir said
India will have their first match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from November 22 in Perth.
