India produced one of their most dominant and memorable performances against a top side in the ICC T20 World Cup history as they hammered England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday in Guyana.
With this thumping 68-run victory in semi-final 2 of the tournament, Rohit Sharma’s team stormed into the final, where they will face South Africa in Barbados on Saturday. Both India and South Africa are undefeated so far in this tournament, having won all their completed matches. So in the final, one team’s streak of unbeaten run in this tournament will end, while other’s ICC trophy drought will end.
Talking about this fixture, England had hammered India by 10 wickets two years ago in Adelaide in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. It would be fair to say that Rohit’s team has taken their revenge with a massive 68-run win where their bowlers made the England batters feel helpless and powerless by using the slowness and inconsistent bounce of the pitch to the best use.
IND vs ENG Match Highlights And Report-T20 WC
Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first, while Rohit said he wanted to bat first nonetheless. Rohit’s understanding of the pitch turned out to be true as it was a tough surface to bat on and it kept getting slower during the second innings of the match.
Virat Kohli suffered another failure—9 runs in 9 balls; his fifth single-digit score in this tournament—while Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 4 runs. However, the intent from Rohit was clear: he wanted to use the powerplay and score as many runs as quickly as possible before the pitch deteriorated further.
Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav formed a match-winning partnership of 73 (50). They were dismissed in succession, having scored 57 (39) and 47 (36), respectively. Hardik Pandya blasted four and two sixes while Axar and Jadeja combined to put on a stand of 24 (12) – all of it took India to 171, a way above-par score on this pitch.

England started off steadily with Buttler collecting four boundaries in the first three overs. However, Axar dismissed Buttler, catching a top edge while he attempted a reverse sweep. And that triggered England’s collapse.
Bumrah bowled Phil Salt with a clever off-cutter before Axar knocked over Bairstow and Kuldeep did the same to Harry Brook. Axar picked his third wicket in the form of Moeen Ali, while Kuldeep dismissed Curran and Jordan.
India didn’t waste time in cleaning up the rest of the England batting order, bundling them out for 103 runs.
Score summary: India 171/7 in 20 overs (Rohit Sharma 57, Chris Jordan 3/37); England 103/10 in 16.4 overs (Harry Brook 25, Kuldeep Yadav 3/19). India defeated England by 68 runs.
