CAN vs IRE Match Highlights And Report-T20 WC: In two consecutive matches in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, an Associate nation has defeated a Full Member team. After the USA’s memorable win over Pakistan in Dallas, Canada recorded their first-ever victory in the T20 World Cup as they defeated Ireland by 12 runs in New York.
It was the first time in three matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium that the team batting first managed to score more than 100 runs. Today, the pitch wasn’t as dangerous as in the previous two matches, but still, balls were shooting off length, and there was extra bounce, resulting in batters getting out on hook and pull shots.
The stars for Canada were Nicholas Kirton, who was the top-scorer in the match with 49 runs, Jeremy Gordon (2/16 in 4 overs), and Dillon Heyliger (2/18 in 4 overs).

Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ireland got off to a good start by taking two wickets—both openers being dismissed by Criag Young and Mark Adair—in the powerplay, as Canada managed 37 runs in the first six overs. In the next three overs, Canada lost two more wickets to Young and Delany.
However, from thereon, Nicholas Kirton and Shreyas Movva resurrected the innings with timely boundaries as the pair batted together for more than 10 overs. Their fifth-wicket partnership was worth 75 runs in 63 balls. That helped Canada go from 53/4 to 128/4. Kirton scored 49 (35) and Movva scored 37 (36). Kirton was the only batter in Canada’s innings who hit a six. Eventually, they finished with 137 runs on the board.

Despite having some experienced international batters, Ireland’s top- and middle-order batters looked out of sorts against Canada.
Starting with Stirling top-edging Gordon, Ireland went from 26/0 to 59/6 by the 13th over. Junaid Siddiqui, Saad Bin Zafar, who is the Canadian skipper, and Dillon Heyliger got on the wickets column as Canada took control.
However, the momentum of the game started to shift back with the partnership of 62 (41) between George Dockrell and Adair. The game got stretched into the last over, with 17 runs required. Gordon kept his nerve and used a short ball to dismiss Adair. Dockrell didn’t get the strike for the first five balls of the over, and Gordon conceded only four runs to seal the game for Canada.
Score summary: Canada 137/7 in 20 overs (Nicholas Kirton 49, Barry McCarthy 2/24); Ireland 125/7 in 20 overs (Mark Adair 34, Jeremy Gordon 2/16). Canada defeated Ireland by 12 runs.
