CSK vs RCB Match Highlights And Report-IPL: Under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, the defending IPL champions CSK kicked off their title defense with a 6-wicket win over Faf du Plessis’ side at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
This meant that CSK extended their dominant home record over RCB; it now stands at 8-1, with RCB’s only win at Chepauk coming way back in 2008.
Mustafizur Rahman’s four-wicket haul went a long way in CSK restricting RCB to 173, despite heroics from Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik. On a good pitch in Chennai, where chasing has been a winning trend in recent years, it seemed an under-par score, and it proved to be so as five out of CSK’s top six got going and chased the target down with eight balls to spare.

Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. The RCB captain latched onto some poor short lengths from Chahar and raced to 35 off 22 before holing to sweeper cover off Mustafizur. That started a tough phase for RCB.
Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed for ducks by Mustafizur and Chahar, respectively, both caught by MS Dhoni off the outside edges.
Virat Kohli, returning from a long break, got stuck in the middle and managed only one six and no boundary in his knock of 21 runs in 20 balls. Rahman returned in the 12th over to dismiss Kohli, caught at deep mid-wicket, and Green bowled.

From 78/5, though, Karthik and Rawat, two under-fire batters from last season, put on a brilliant partnership of 95 runs in 50 balls. Rawat, the youngster, scored 48 (25) and Karthik, the veteran, scored 38 (26). The pair hammered a combined 7 fours and 5 sixes to take RCB to 173.
Gaikwad collected two fours from the first over off Siraj to get the chase going. Then, even though the CSK captain fell for only 12 runs, the hosts continued to bat aggressively and collect regular boundaries through Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane, followed by Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube.
On his IPL debut, Rachin was mesmerizing in his intent and shot-making. The young Kiwi left-hander, who was opening in place of the injured Devon Conway, walloped 3 fours and as many sixes in his 15-ball 37-run innings. Rahane shaved off his bad Ranji form to cream a couple of sixes. Their partnership was worth 33 (18).
Daryl Mitchell, on his CSK debut, hit a couple of sixes. The finish came from Dube, who staved off some short ball barrage—remember, now two bouncers per over are allowed—and clobbered four fours and a six. Dube scored 34* (28) and hit the winning runs, with Ravindra Jadeja at the other end on 25* (17).
Score summary: RCB 172/6 (Anuj Rawat 48, Mustafizur Rahman 4/29*) CSK 176/4 in 18.4 overs (Rachin Ravindra 37; Cameron Green 2/27). CSK won by 6 wickets.
