BBL13-Heat vs Strikers Challenger Report: A joint-second-fastest BBL century by Josh Brown in the Challenger against the Adelaide Strikers stormed the Brisbane Heat in the BBL 2023-24 final, setting up a date with the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Brisbane opener Josh Brown blasted 12 sixes in his sizzling knock, which is the new record for the highest number of sixes in a BBL individual innings. He raised his ton in 41 balls, just two deliveries more than Craig Simmons’ BBL record of the fastest century. Brown’s score of 140 is now the third-highest individual score in the history of the BBL.
Courtesy of this majestic knock from the opener, Brisbane cracked 214 runs and out-batted the opponent, eventually winning by 54 runs.
Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers As it happened:
After electing to bat, Brisbane lost Charlie Wakim in the second over to David Payne. But then began the mayhem from Josh Brown, who took a mauling of the Adelaide bowlers, in particular the spinners Cameron Boyce and Lloyd Pope. The two spinners had choked the Perth Scorchers in the Knockout a couple of days ago, but Brown walloped them for a flurry of fours and sixes, especially taking the toll on the region from long-off to mid-wicket at the Carrara Oval, which has huge boundary dimensions.
Brown connected his hits effectively and treated the Strikers’ bowlers with utter disdain, smashing 10 fours and 12 sixes in his innings of 140 runs in 57 balls. He got out in the 17th over, but by then, with the team score of 192 and even with Adelaide picking five late wickets, Brown’s century had put Brisbane in a winning position already.

In reply, Adelaide captain Matthew Short smashed three fours to race to 19 runs in 8 balls But once Short got out, succumbing to the extra bounce generated by Spencer Johnson, who ended the game with figures of 3/20, the Strikers fell apart.
Thomas Kelly (41 runs in 24 balls) and Harry Nielsen (50 runs in 33 balls) showed a fight, but it was never going to be enough to challenge Brisbane’s total of 214. Losing three wickets to part-time spinner Nathan McSweeney, the Brisbane skipper, in the last over summed up Adelaide’s night.
BBL13-Heat vs Strikers Challenger Report Man of the Match:
There has never been a more certain Man of the Match player award decision than Josh Brown for his 57-ball 140 that put the Brisbane Heat in their second BBL final.
