Terry Opens Up About His Managerial Career: Chelsea’s former defender, John Terry, opened up about his managerial career and his long-time dream of managing Chelsea, his former club. Jon Terry Talks About His Broken Chelsea Dream
One of the greatest defenders of Premier League history, Terry, got emotional talking about his Chelsea dream.
“Now I’ve realised it’s not going to happen. My one dream I had when I left Chelsea was that I was going to come back as manager, but now I know it won’t happen. It hurts me, and it’ll constantly be niggling away at the back of my mind.”
Terry Opens Up About His Managerial Career
Terry Opens Up About His Managerial Career: Terry also spilled some beans about his managerial career. After leaving Aston Villa, he applied for the managing position at New Castle, but it turned out that Eddie Howe got the cake. As Terry Opens Up About His Managerial Career, He also mentioned a couple of interviews he had applied to but ‘fortunately’ didn’t get through.
“When I left Villa, I applied for two or three jobs; I interviewed for Newcastle, and I interviewed for a couple before that I didn’t get. It was a really good process for me because you sit in those meetings and you go ‘Actually, I’m way off this, I’m glad I didn’t get it,’ and you learn how to present in those meetings.
The 42-year-old had also tried his luck in League 1, but that too didn’t go his way.
“Initially, I didn’t go to League One because I didn’t know a lot about it, I’d never played there. That’s why I ended up in the Championship because I’d played a season there, I’d coached a couple of years, and I fully understood the schedule. I applied for two jobs in League One and didn’t get either of them.”
Terry started his coaching career at Aston Villa, joining as an assistant coach to Dean Smith in October 2018. After completing three years in the villa, he parted ways with them. Later, Terry revealed that Dean Smith had an important role in molding his coaching career. Later, in January 2022, Terry returned to Chelsea, but now in a new role, i.e., as a coaching consultant.
When Dean Smith joined Leicester City in April 2023, Terry joined him again, but for a couple of months. In July of this year, he again held hands with Chelsea as an academy coach, a role he is continuing right now.
