Manasi Joshi won India first medal in Paralympics?: In recent times, India has been a solid presence at the Paralympic (or Para-Olympic) Games. Winning medals in multiple disciplines and events, the country has seen a massive spike in medals, especially in the past two events.

Pramod Bhagat was born on June 4, 1988, in Hajipur, Vaishali district, Bihar. At the age of five, he contracted polio, which led to a disability in his left leg.
He developed a fascination for badminton right around the year 2000 when he decided that he wanted to play the sport. At the age of 15, he partook in his first badminton tournament in the “normal” category. The encouragement he received that day motivated him to make a career in badminton.

Pramod turned professional in 2006 and won his first major international title in 2013, when, alongside current teammate Manoj Sarkar, Bhagat won a gold medal in the World Championships.
This was one of several accolades that Pramod Bhagat won in years to come. Since 2013, he has won five golds (including three in Men’s Singles), two silvers, and a bronze at the World Championships. He also won two golds and a silver at the 2019 International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games, a gold and two bronzes in the Asian Para Games, and two bronzes in the Asian Championships.

Who are the top badminton players?
Pramod’s crowning achievement came in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, where he became the first Indian para-shuttler to win a medal, that too a gold, ever. He won the medal in the men’s SL3 event.
The noe 35-year-old became World No.1 in singles and Men’s Doubles in 2019, and is currently ranked two in both categories.
