Following the blueprint of the previous year, Bengaluru has been chosen as the venue for the prestigious Duleep Trophy, a multi-day extravaganza slated to grace the cricketing arena from June 28 onwards. Meanwhile, the picturesque Puducherry has been entrusted with the responsibility of hosting the scintillating Deodhar Trophy, a captivating 50-over spectacle. However, the exact dates for the Deodhar Trophy are yet to be unveiled, adding an element of anticipation to the cricketing calendar.

As Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy comes, in a communication addressed to the state units, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that the Duleep Trophy will witness scintillating action from June 28 to July 16, featuring six fiercely competitive zones: North, South, West, East, Central, and North East. As a testament to their outstanding performance in the previous edition, the South and West zones have earned direct entry into the semifinals. The remaining four teams will lock horns in two riveting quarterfinal matches, vying for the coveted semifinal berths. Following the gripping semifinal encounters, the climax of the Duleep Trophy will unfold in an electrifying final showdown.
Abey Kuruvilla, the BCCI’s General Manager of Game Development, has urged the six zones to expeditiously finalize their squad selections by June 15. In addition, each zone has been advised to establish a zonal selection committee and appoint a zonal convenor to oversee the team’s preparations. As Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy comes, the zonal convenors hold a crucial role in orchestrating the proceedings and will serve as key liaisons between the respective zones and the BCCI. Furthermore, they have been entrusted with the responsibility of nominating a competent support staff, including a coach, physiotherapist, trainer, performance analyst, masseur, and manager, to ensure optimal performance on the field.
The communication from Kuruvilla to the state associations emphasized the significance of adhering to the guidelines and promptly submitting the squads, consisting of players and support staff, ahead of the impending tournament. Notably, the West Zone selection committee meeting, presided over by the experienced Raju Kulkarni, a former India Test player, will convene in Ahmedabad on the specified day, making crucial decisions for their team’s campaign.
Deodhar Trophy
In tandem with the thrilling Duleep Trophy, the cricketing fraternity can brace themselves for the pulsating return of the Deodhar Trophy. BCCI sources have confirmed that the esteemed tournament is tentatively scheduled to commence in Puducherry, enthralling fans from July 24 to August 3. After a hiatus since 2019, the reintegration of the Deodhar Trophy into the domestic calendar serves as a tantalizing precursor to the upcoming ODI World Cup, set to unfold on Indian soil later this year.
