Following a remarkable T20 Max campaign, the left-arm bowler earned a place on Brisbane’s list. As per Spencer Johnson New Brisbane Heat Extension, Although he had to wait until the midway point of the last season to make his debut for the Heat, he played in the final 10 matches of the season, including three consecutive finals victories.
Throughout the campaign, Johnson was assigned the crucial task of bowling the ‘death’ overs, and he executed it brilliantly. He managed to outwit two of Australia’s most dependable finishers, Tim David (in the match against the Hurricanes on January 20) and Marcus Stoinis (in the match against the Stars on January 22).
After his exceptional performance in the Big Bash, he resumed playing List A cricket with South Australia and made his debut in the Marsh Sheffield Shield for the Redbacks. In his first two matches, he took six and seven-wicket hauls, showcasing his remarkable skills.

Later that month, the 27-year-old was selected for Australia A squad to play against New Zealand A in April, and he also signed a new contract with South Australia.
“I’m very pleased to commit to the Heat for the next three BBL seasons as I certainly had an enjoyable and rewarding time with the team last season,” Johnson said.
“I was only thinking the other day that a bit over 12 months ago, I was getting ready to come up to Brisbane to play some pre-season Premier Cricket T20 games and give myself a chance of potentially landing a BBL deal.
“For that to happen, and then to go on to play in the matches we did was a dream come true.
“We got close, and the prospect of seeing what we can achieve this summer is a very strong incentive for all of the Heat squad coming into BBL|13.”
As per Spencer Johnson New Brisbane Heat Extension, Johnson will play a significant role in the Heat’s strategy to perform better next season, as they aim to avenge their loss in the final against the Perth Scorchers in February, which they lost in the last over.

The Heat has not been able to secure a BBL title since the second edition of the competition in 2012-13.
