England sealed their first home Test series victory in two years with a 194-run win over Pakistan at Lord’s. The result gave them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Pakistan were set a target of 389 runs. They were reduced to 14 for 3 before lunch. Saud Shakeel fought back with a brilliant 97, but it was not enough. He fell three runs short of a century, trying to launch Josh Tongue over the boundary. He walked off to a standing ovation. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 194 on the fourth day.

Ollie Robinson was the chief destroyer for England. He took four wickets for 24 runs in the second innings and finished with match figures of 8 for 35. He has now taken 16 wickets in the series. Joe Root said Robinson has been phenomenal and relentless. Josh Tongue took three wickets, and Jofra Archer claimed two.

England had resumed the fourth day at 177 for 7. They were all out for 208. Pakistan quick Mohammad Abbas finished with five wickets in the innings. Earlier, he had taken four wickets in England’s first innings.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam fell early to a sharp bouncer from Archer. Shan Masood and Shakeel tried to steady the innings. Robinson dismissed Masood for 26 and then Mohammad Rizwan in successive overs. Both were lbw.

The only positives for Pakistan were Shakeel’s knock and Abbas getting his name on the Lord’s honors board with a five-wicket haul. The third and final Test will start at Edgbaston on September 9. Pakistan will need to rebuild their morale after two heavy defeats.

The victory has taken England’s WTC tally to 62 points and improved their points percentage to 34.44. As a result, England have moved up one spot to sixth in the standings. Pakistan continues to occupy the bottom position with a points percentage of 16.67. They have collected only 16 points from eight matches in the current cycle.
