Who will captain RCB in the IPL 2025?: Who will lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025? This is the question that’s been on the minds of the fans since the mega auction a couple of months ago.
Ahead of the mega auction, RCB had released Faf du Plessis, their captain of the last three seasons, who had taken them to the playoffs twice, but the team couldn’t reach the final.
RCB retained Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal and roped in some big names like Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Josh Hazlewood in the auction. But the franchise hasn’t yet confirmed their skipper for the upcoming season.
Who will Captain RCB in the IPL 2025?
South Africa and RCB legend AB de Villiers opined that Virat Kohli is the “only option” that RCB have for captaincy for the IPL 2025 season. De Villiers reckons Kohli, who is in the last phase of his career, would be extra motivated to win the IPL title and would be inspired to lead the franchise again.
“Friends, I think Virat Kohli is the only option [for RCB’s captaincy choice]. He is near the end of his career, more inspired than ever before. Till the time he gets the form and scores runs, we are used to watching him play match-winning innings. It’s like a swansong,” de Villiers said in his recent YouTube video.
Kohli led RCB from 2013 to 2021. In this period, RCB reached the playoffs four times and the final once—in 2016 but lost the final to Sunrisers Hyderabad. AB de Villiers, too, was part of the side in this period.
Kohli is currently under pressure for his dismal returns with the bat in Test cricket. He hit only one fifty and one century across his last three Test series.
He had also struggled for the majority of the T20 World Cup 2024 but slammed a match-winning fifty in the final against South Africa.
