Steve Smith On Captaining MS Dhoni: Australian batting great Steve Smith recently opened up about the time he captained MS Dhoni in IPL 2017, claiming he learned a lot of things from the wicketkeeper-batter.
Smith, who captained Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for a few years, was part of Pune Super Giants when RR and Chennai Super Kings were suspended from the league for two years. Also part of the team was Dhoni.
While the former Indian captain was the captain of the Super Giants in 2016, he was replaced in the leadership role by the Aussie in the 2017 season. In their second and final IPL season, the Pune Super Giants reached the final and only lost to Mumbai Indians by one run.
Having not played in the IPL for the past couple of seasons, Steve Smith has been part of the broadcast team for the tournament.

He recently reminisced over playing for Pune Super Giants and captaining MS Dhoni during an interview with Star Sports Tamil Cricket Live. During the discussion, he reflected upon Dhoni’s understanding and ability to read the game.

Smith had this to say about his experience captaining the 42-year-old –
“There were many occasions where MS was fantastic. You know, I really enjoyed playing with him. I enjoyed leading him as well. He certainly helped me out.”
He went deeper into his praises of Dhoni, claiming his understanding of cricket is second to none.
“There’s no one better in India to have behind the stumps than MS Dhoni. The way he understands the game and the angles of the game is second to none. So look, he was a tremendous person to play with. I really enjoyed his company on and off the field,” said Smith.

MS Dhoni, now playing for CSK and no longer the captain will star in the Super Kings’ next IPL match, against the Delhi Capitals on March 31 in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
