RR vs PBKS Match Highlights And Report-IPL: Punjab Kings’ interim skipper Sam Curran put on a brilliant all-round performance – 2/24 followed by 63* – in Guwahati to hand Rajasthan Royals their fourth loss in a row this season.
This has been a jaw-dropping fall for Sanju Samson’s team, which had won eight out of their first nine matches. Although RR are qualified for the playoffs with 16 points in 13 games, this has now given a sniff to CSK, who have 14 points in 13 games, a chance to finish second.
RR vs PBKS Match Highlights And Report-IPL
It was a two-paced track at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati; it showed when RR’s top three of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tom Kohler-Cadmore – who was playing in place of Buttler, who has flown back home for England’s camp – and Sanju Samson were all back in the hut with the score reading 42/3 in 7.2 overs and RR’s innings going nowhere.
R Ashwin was promoted over Dhruv Jurel, and the Tamil Nadu cricketer batted impressively to score 28 runs in 19 balls with the help of three fours and a six. The star for RR in this innings was Riyan Parag, who is having a breakthrough season. Parag was 22 (17) at the 13-over mark, when Ashwin had just gotten out.
The Assam cricketer freed up his hands to score a four each off Curran and Ellis before hitting a couple of boundaries to Arshdeep. Parag didn’t manage to hit a single six in his knock of 48 (34), as the PBKS bowlers kept things tight throughout the innings and restricted RR to 144/9.

Similar to RR, PBKS also suffered early blows. Boult struck in the first over with the scalp of Prabhsimran. Rilee Rossouw’s counter-attacking innings of 22 (13) was ended by Avesh, who also dismissed Shashank Singh, before Chahal had Bairstow, who struggled in his 14 (22). PBKS were in trouble at 48/4 after 8 overs.
However, from thereon, Jitesh Sharma and Curran took over the duties. One way they chose was to counter-attack, as Jitesh smacked Ashwin for a six and Curran cracked two fours to Chahal. The duo then walloped two sixes to Ashwin to bring the required rate under nine with five overs to go.
Even though Chahal outfoxed Jitesh, the next man in, Ashutosh Sharma, blasted a six and a four as PBKS didn’t relent on their march. Curran reached his fifty before clobbering Sandeep Sharma for a maximum. PBKS romped home with 7 balls to spare.
Score summary: Rajasthan Royals 144/9 in 20 overs (Riyan Parag 48, Rahul Chahar 2/26); Punjab Kings 145/5 in 18.5 overs (Sam Curran 63*, Avesh Khan 2/28). PBKS defeated RR by 5 wickets.
