The Gujarat Titans stormed into the top two with a thumping win over the Rajasthan Royals. But what were the hits and flops in this RR vs GT game?

Today’s RR vs GT game was Match 52 of IPL 2026. It was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, with the home team winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. The Titans got off to a brilliant start, making 82 runs in the powerplay without losing any wickets.

Shubman Gill played a captain’s knock in this game, missing out on a deserving century but giving his team a solid start. A fine finish by Rahul Tewatia meant GT reached a mammoth total of 229/4 in 20 overs.

In response, RR got off to a flying start. However, regular wickets meant they were consistently behind the eight ball. In the end, they were all out for 152, losing the match by 77 runs.

Today, we will discuss three hits and flops from the RR vs GT game in IPL 2026 Match 52.

Three Hits And Flops From RR Vs GT Match

Hits

1. The GT Openers

The Gujarat Titans were put to bat first in this game. Their openers gave them a start to their dreams. In the powerplay, the pair of Sai Sudahrsan and captain Shubman Gill made 82 runs together.

The in-form Jofra Archer conceded 18 in his first over, Tushar Deshpande was punished in his first few overs, and so was Brijesh Sharma.

Sudharsan would reach his half-century in the ninth over, reaching the milestone in 29 deliveries. He played a solid knock of 55 off 36, providing his team with a brilliant start.

Sai’s wicket came in the 11th over. The opening stand was worth 118 runs, GT’s highest opening partnership this season.

Sai Sudharsan’s wicket was soon followed by that of Jos Buttler. After two wickets, the load of scoring runs fell on the shoulders of Shubman Gill, who seemed to have injured his Achilles before scoring his 50, which he made in 30 deliveries.

Gill picked the pace up and started punishing all comers, especially the RR spinners, who were bowling economically up until that point.

By the time Shubman was dismissed by Brijesh Sharma in the 17th over, he had made 84 off 44. While he did get out before scoring a ton, the captain’s knock provided a footing for his team to make a match-scoring total of 229 runs.

2. Rashid Khan

In a game where the average run rate was well over 10, a bowler was named the Player of the Match. This should be enough to tell you how great a game Rashid Khan had with the ball.

By the time Rashid came into the attack in the eighth over, RR had already lost three big wickets. But they had also made 86 runs in seven overs. With their stellar middle-order, they were still very much in the game.

In just his first over, Rashid ensured that the result of the match was done and dusted, burying the Royals in the ground. On his third ball, the Afghan maestro bowled Dhruv Jurel, who was batting at 24 off nine.

Then, late in the evening, after an in-form Donovan Ferreira hit him for a four, Rashid roared back by clean bowling the South African for four off two. He took two wickets and gave away just five runs in his first over.

While Khan did not take a wicket in his second over, he conceded just six runs. And while he was hit for 14 runs in his third, he also bowled Shubham Dubey, his third bowled of the night.

Rashid Khan did not get anyone bowled for his fourth wicket, but did the next best thing. He caught Ravindra Jadeja, who was looking dangerous at 38 off 24, before the wicket, an lbw dismissal.

Rashid Khan ended his night with an incredible four-over spell of 4/33, for which he was named the Player of the Match.

3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, despite not having a memorable game himself, was RR’s best performer on the night and one of their very few highlights. The other being Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made just 26 runs but did so in 16 balls.

As for Jadeja, he came in to bowl at a time RR was haemorrhaging runs. His first over was the eighth one of the innings. In the first seven, over 92 runs were made. So his six-run over seemed like a change in momentum. His second over, too, went for just six runs.

Jadeja was indeed punished in his third over, where he got hit for two fours and a six and conceded 17 runs. Before making an excellent comeback in his last one. He took the wicket of Jos Buttler and gave away just five runs.

It was a decent outing with the ball for the veteran Indian all-rounder. His four-over spell saw him concede just 34 runs, which is great when your team gives away 229 runs in 20 overs. He had the best economy out of all the Rajasthan bowlers tonight with 8.5 and also took the ever-important wicket of Buttler.

Then, with the bat, while he didn’t even bring his team close to a chance at a win, he made the most runs out of all the RR batters, making 38 off 25. He also anchored the innings at a time when they were losing wickets left, right, and centre. He saw the entire Royals’ middle-order collapse right in front of him, but stood firm at one end. It was a solid all-round performance for Ravindra Jadeja.

Flops

1. Rajasthan Royals’s Batting Falters

The Rajasthan Royals’ batting lineup got a massive target of 230 to chase. However, seeing the immense firepower in this order, this was a chasable target for the Royals. Suffice it to say, the batters failed in this task.

The batting was opened by the explosive duo of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The latter was the stand-in captain tonight as Riyan Parag missed this game due to injury.

Sooryavanshi seemingly got injured on the third ball of the innings but kept on playing at his usual pace nonetheless. He first hit Mohammed Siraj for a six, then Kagiso Rabada for two.

He also hit Siraj for three boundaries in his second over before losing his wicket for 26 off 16. This was followed by Jaiswal’s wicket in the very next over for three off four.

Dhruv Jurel showed some fire, hitting Siraj for 22 runs in the fifth over, but was bowled in the eighth by Rashid Khan for 24 off 10.

Shimron Hetmyer, playing in place of Parag, failed once again, making just six off seven. So did Donovan Ferreira, who too was bowled by Rashid for four off two, right after Jurel.

Struggling at 91/5 at the end of the eighth over, Rajasthan needed someone to stabilise the innings. While Ravindra Jadeja did play a sensible innings of 38 off 25, wickets kept falling around him.

Shubham Dubey made just 15 off 14, while Dasun Shanaka was dismissed for 16 off 11. Fofra Archer made five runs, and Tushar Deshpande made just one. And just like that, Rajasthan Royals was dismissed for 152 runs in 16.3 overs.

2. The Royals’ Pace Bowling

The Rajasthan Royals’ pace attack has been one of the best in IPL 2026. However, they failed in epic proportions tonight.

First things first, Nandre Burger missed tonight’s game. While the South African has not been in the best form in recent games, he has formed an impeccable pace duo with Jofra Archer. This also meant that Rajasthan had just three pacers on their side tonight.

Speaking of Archer, he has been instrumental in the Royals’ success this season. But he did not take any first-over wicket tonight, like he has done 11 times this season already. In fact, the Englishman conceded 18 runs in the very first overs. He did bowl four wides, one of which also went for a four. He also bowled a no-ball, giving away nine runs via extras in just one over.

Archer conceded 15 runs in his next powerplay over and returned in the 16th, where he gave away 13. In just three overs he bowled today, Jofra conceded 46 runs at an economy of 15.33 and did not take any wickets.

Next up is Tushar Deshpande. He bowled the second over of the innings and had the least expensive over in the powerplay, giving away just eight runs. However, in his next over, Shubman Gill and Sai Dusharsan punished him by making 15 runs.

Deshpande returned to the attack in the death. He bowled an excellent 18th over, giving away just eight runs. Because of this comeback, he was also given the final over to bowl, where he conceded three maximums and 21 runs. He finished his four-over spell with the figures of 0/52 and an economy of 13.

The final bowler on the list is Brijesh Sharma. The medium-pacer bowled his first over in the powerplay, where he got hit for a four and a six but conceded just 11 runs. His second over was the last one of the powerplay, where three boundaries were hit and 15 runs were made.

Brijesh returned at the death and took the crucial wicket of Shubman Gill in the 17th. However, he also conceded 17 runs in that over. His final over was arguably the best one of the innings, as only four runs were made and Jason Holder was dismissed.

Brijesh was the pick of the RR pacers tonight. Even though his performance was not anything too exceptional. His four-over spell saw him take two wickets and concede 47 runs at an economy of 11.75.

3. Mohammed Siraj: An Exception

While the Gujarat Titans did well to bowl out a great RR batting order, 78 runs away from the target, Mohammed Siraj was the only exception in their bowling attack tonight. The experienced Indian pacer was quite expensive in his spell.

Siraj came in to bowl the first over of the second innings. While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi did hit him for a six, the over went for 11 runs, not too poor for someone bowling against the fiery 15-year-old.

His second over in the powerplay, which was also the third over of the innings, saw the wicket of Sooryavanshi fall, which was a massive win for GT. However, before that, Vaibhav hit him for three fours as the over went for 12 runs.

It still wasn’t all doom and gloom for Siraj so far. That would come in his next over. The fifth over of the innings was the third over he bowled on the night. In that over, Dhruv Jurel hit him for a four and three sixes, a total of 22 runs.

His fourth over was a considerably quiet one. Dasun Shanakla hit only a boundary in Mohammed Siraj’s last over of his spell, as that over went for 10 runs.

Siraj bowled four overs tonight. And while he took the valuable wicket of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he also conceded 55 runs at an economy of 13.75. None of his overs went for less than 10 overs in this game.
