The Gujarat Titans jumped to the top of the table with a massive win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But what were the hits and flops in this GT vs SRH game?

Today’s GT vs SRH game was Match 56 of IPL 2026. It was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with the away team winning the toss and deciding to bowl first.

The Kings got off to a poor start, losing two massive wickets in the powerplay. But Sai Sudharsan stabilised the innings, scoring 61 off 44 on a difficult track, and took the team towards a respectable score.

Washington Sundar scored a half-century in the second half of the innings and took the team to a decent total for this pitch of 168/6 in 20 overs.

In response, SRH lost early wickets and then kept losing them. None of their batters stayed on the crease for long and scored any runs. Pat Cummins was their highest run-scorer with 19. Because of that, the Sunrisers were dismissed for 84 runs in 14.5 overs, losing the game by 82 runs.

Today, we will discuss three hits and flops from the GT vs SRH game in IPL 2026, Match 56.

IPL 2026: Three Hits And Flops From GT Vs SRH Match

Hits

1. Sai Sudharsan Saves From Top Order Collapse

Sai Sudharsan was an absolute saviour for the Gujarat Titans in this game. His innings practically saved his side from an embarrassing collapse. Not only did he end up being the highest scorer of the match, but he also played what ended up being a match-saving knock.

Sai opened the batting alongside Shubman Gill in the first innings of the game. Seeing the pitch conditions, he didn’t hit his first boundary till the second over.

After Gill’s wicket, he knocked the ball around for the rest of the powerplay. By the time Buttler got out at the start of the fifth, the team score was 26/2, and Sudharsan was batting at 12 off 13. The low score prompted the incoming Nishant Sandhu to capitalise on the remaining powerplay, hitting two fours in the sixth over.

The opener would not hit his next boundary till the eighth over. However, he was still batting quite slowly, playing an anchor role.

At the end of the 10th, he was batting at 28 off 25 but picked up the pace right after with a six in the next over, followed by another in the 13th.

In the 14th over, Sudharsan finally reached his half-century, doing so in 28 deliveries. He batted for a couple more overs after that, being dismissed in the 17th for 61 off 44.

While in the wider context of IPL 2026, this might not seem like the flashiest of innings, which it certainly wasn’t. But in the situation he was in in this game, this was quite a mature and responsible display from the young batter.

Plaudits should also go out to Washington Sundar, who prevented yet another collapse at the death and made 50 off 33.

2. The GT Bowling Attack

The entirety of the Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack ravaged the SRH’s dynamic batting lineup. Each of the bowlers did a great job in not only bowling economically but also taking regular wickets. Well, one comes with the other on most occasions.

Mohammed Siraj opened the bowling for GT in the second innings and bowled a tight first over, consisting of solid lines and movement off the pitch. On the fourth ball of what ended up being a wicket-maiden, Siraj beat Travis Head with pace and dismissed him for a duck.

In his next two overs in the powerplay, Siraj gave away just 11 runs, which included a one-run over in the fifth. In the three overs he bowled tonight, the veteran conceded just 11 runs at an economy of 3.67 and took one wicket.

Meanwhile, in the second over, Kagiso Rabada was hit for two sixes and conceded 13 runs, but also took the massive wicket of Abhishek Sharma. His next over brought the wicket of the dangerous Ishan Kishan, beating the wicketkeeper/batter with bounce. In this over, he also conceded six runs.

Rabada also bowled the final over of the powerplay, where he not only gave away just four runs but also took his third wicket, dismissing Smaran Ravichandran. He also bowled his fourth and last over soon after the powerplay, where he conceded just five runs.

Kagiso Rabada bowled four overs in this game and put up the excellent figures of 3/28 at an economy of 7.0. He also wiped out Hyderabad’s top order for quite cheaply.

With some sublime fast-bowling by the pace duo in the powerplay, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were left stranded at 34/4 at the end of the sixth.

Jason Holder came into the attack right after the powerplay, where he conceded nine runs. He then gave away six in his second. The former West Indies captain then made a comeback in his third over in the 11th, where he took the wickets of Heinrick Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy while conceding just four runs.

In his final over, Holder gave away just a single run and took the wicket of Shivang Kumar. He posted the figures of 3/20 in his four-over spell tonight, bowling at an economy of 5.0.

Prasidh Krishna was the fourth pacer in the Titans’ bowling lineup tonight. He came into the attack in the 10th over, gave just two runs in his first over, and took the wicket of Salil Arora.

His second over went for 11 runs, while his third went for 10. However, in his third and last over in this game, Krishna dismissed Pat Cummins, who was looking in fine touch. His three-over spell saw him concede 23 runs at an economy of 7.67 and take two wickets.

Finally, Rashid Khan, Gujarat’s only spin bowler tonight. He got to bowl just five balls in this game. He came to bowl in the 15th over. By this time, SRH had lost nine wickets. Rashid took five balls to dismiss Praful Hinge and finished the game early.

While all the GT bowlers did quite well in this game, Kagiso Rabada was the standout for taking big wickets in the powerplay. For that, he was named the Player of the Match.

3. SRH’s Young Pace Duo

Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain made their debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the year. And in their very first game, the two made a name for themselves, wreaking havoc on the Rajasthan Royals.

Tonight, the two switched on again and were the best bowlers for their team, bowling alongside a legend in Pat Cummins and an in-form Eshan Malinga.

Hinge came in as the first replacement bowler tonight, bowling the third over of the first innings. He took the wicket of opposition skipper Shubman Gill on just his second ball and conceded just two runs in his first over.

He then returned to bowl the final over of the powerplay, where, on the first ball, he took the wicket of the ever-dangerous Jos Buttler. And while he was hit for two boundaries in that over, he conceded just eight.

Praful was then taken off the attack and was brought back in at the death, bowling the 18th over. In a crucial over towards the end of the innings, he gave away just seven runs against experienced batters like Washington Sundar and Jason Holder.

In three overs in this game, Praful Hinge conceded just 17 runs at an economy of 5.67 and took two massive wickets.

Meanwhile, Sakib Hussain came into the attack in the middle overs. He bowled his first in the ninth and gave away just seven runs. And while his next over in the 13th went for 10 runs, where he was hit for a six, Hussain made a massive comeback in the 17th with the wicket of Sai Sudharsan, despite that over going for 10 runs.

Sakib then bowled an excellent 20th over, where he just conceded 10 runs at a crucial juncture and got the wicket of Washington Sundar.

In his four overs tonight, Sakib Hussain put up the impressive figures of 2/37 and an economy of 9.25.

Flops

1. SRH Top Order Collapse

The explosive SRH top-order was not up to par on this night. The dangerous trio of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan made a combined 17 runs in this game.

Like usual, Travis and Abhishek opened the batting in the second innings. While Abhishek has been in decent form this season, the Aussie, despite not finding much form, has played a few innings where he showcased why he is considered one of the best white-ball openers.

But tonight was not the night for Travis Head, who, after playing three dot balls in the first over, was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj on the fourth. Looking to flick a ball, he was beaten by pace and was caught near the point boundary for a four-ball duck.

Abhishek did not do too well either. The ferocious opener, after hitting a six on the first ball he faced in the second over, was bowled out on the fourth. Stepping out to hit a six towards the leg side, Abhishek did not make a decent connection. The ball, after edging the bat, just rolled into the wicket. Sharma was bowled for six off four.

After the first wicket fell, Ishan Kishan came to the crease. He had just started to show off his hitting ability with a four and a six. But then, on the first ball of the fourth over by Kagiso Rabada, Kishan was surprised by the bounce of the ball and edged the ball, getting caught behind for 11 off seven.

2. SRH’s Middle Order Stiffled

After the top order collapsed within the first four overs of the innings, it was upon the in-form middle order to save this game for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Suffice it to say that did not happen.

At number four came the young Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandra. He showcased his talent early on, hitting a classic cover drive for a four on just his second ball.

However, his innings were not a long one. After struggling against GT’s veteran pacers for a bit, Smaran would first be dropped at the point boundary on the third ball of the fifth over before, still looking to hit big in the powerplay, getting caught at mid-off for nine off 15.

The responsibility fell on the shoulders of Heinrich Klaasen to play a big innings and rescue his team from, if not a defeat, a humiliating total. But the South African was not up to the challenge tonight.

Klaasen came on to bat in the fourth over and was staying firm at one end for a while, playing dots and making runs cautiously. While his dismissal would not come till the 11th over, he played only 16 balls during his time on the pitch, in which he hit just two fours and scored only 14 runs.

Salil Arora did not fare much better. He entered the field after Ravichandran’s dismissal. He played 13 balls, scored 16 runs, and got out in the 10th over.

At the point of Heinrich Klaasen’s dismissal, SRH had lost five wickets for 56 runs. They needed 113 runs in 59 balls while chasing 169. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Pat Cummins were the only dependable batters left, and both of them were on the crease.

Nitish would lose his wicket just moments after Klaasen, getting out for two off four in the 11th over. Cummins, on the other hand, showed some fire. In the nine balls he played, he hit a boundary and two maximums, making 19 runs before getting out in the 14th.

The tail did not provide much resistance. Shivang Kumar made four runs, Praful Hinge made three, and Eshan Malinga was out for a duck. The Sunrisers were dismissed for 86 runs in 14.5 overs, with the entire batting order failing to make any runs.

3. GT’s Biggest Stars Fail With The Bat

The two biggest names in the Gujarat Titans’ batting order are their captain, Shubman Gill, and English wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. On arguably a challenging surface, at least one of the two should have anchored and stabilised their team. But none of them was up for the task.

Gill opened the GT batting alongside Sai Sudharsan. The two, over the past couple of years, have formed one of the most formidable opening partnerships in the IPL. In the first over in this game, the two made five runs.

Sudharsan would soon open his arms and score his first boundary in the second. In the same over, Shubman Gill was dropped by the bowler, Nitish Kumar Reddy, while batting on zero. He survived a duck scare. He would follow it up with a boundary on the next ball.

However, this stay on the crease would not be long for Shubman Gill. On the second ball of the third over, he hit a loose flick towards mid-wicket and was caught. He would get out after making just five runs off seven balls.

This wicket brought Jos Buttler to strike. The veteran now had the task of keeping the runs flowing and not losing any more wickets. That did not happen either.

After a couple of slow overs, the score was 26/1 at the end of the fifth over, with a lot of dots and not many boundaries.

Buttler, looking to pick the pace up, tried to scoop the first ball of the sixth over by Praful Hinge towards fine leg. Instead, he edged the ball and was caught behind. Jos would be dismissed for seven out of 11.

Two of the most experienced batters in the GT squad made a combined 12 runs in 18 deliveries, a poor night out for the two men.
