The Mumbai Indians Women’s Team has defeated the Gujarat Giants Women in Match 6 of the Women’s Premier League 2026 on the back of a captain’s knock by Harmanpreet Kaur.

Tonight’s match of WPL 2026 was played in the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. Winning tosses and choosing to bowl first on this ground and in this competition has been a winning move in every game so far.

Mumbai Indians Beats Gujarat Giants Ind Match 6 WPL 2026

The Giants got off to a decent start to their inning. The opening duo of Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney made 19 runs in the first two overs before Devine was dismissed by Shabnim Ismail in the third for eight off four.

The Gujarat-based franchise did not slow down at the fall of a wicket, as the incoming Kanika Ahuja kept the flow of runs high. At the end of the powerplay, GG-W’s score was 62/1.

However, just a few balls into the seventh over, Beth Mooney departed for 33 off 26, dismissed by Amelia Kerr. This brought captain Ashleigh Gardner to the crease.

While there was always someone on the pitch for the Gujarat Giants who kept scoring quick runs, the team was unable to build any big partnership. Ahuja and Gardner batted for about three overs together, making 33 runs before Gardner got out for 20 off 11 and was caught before wicket by Nicola Carey.

In the very next over, Kanika Ahuja, after making 35 off 18, was dismissed by Hayley Matthews, as the Giants were at 99/4 in 10.1 overs.

Next came the longest-lasting partnership of this inning, but one that slowed things down dramatically. The duo of Georgia Wareham and debutant Ayushi Soni. While the experienced Wareham scored at a decent rate, Soni struggled massively.

At the end of the 15th over, Ayushi was batting at 11 off 14, while the score was 136/4. So the team took a massive decision to call Ayushi Soni out, making her the first player to be retired out in a WPL game.

In her place came Bharati Fulmali, who proved the decision to make Soni retire was a correct one, seeing how she slogged in the death overs, making 36 off 15. On the other end, Georgia Wareham ended her inning at 43 off 33. All in all, Gujarat ended their allotted 20 overs at a respectable score of 192/5.

In response, the Mumbai Indians Women lost their first wicket early, as wicketkeeper and opener Gunalan Kamalini was dismissed in the third over after making 13 off 12.

The other opener, Hayley Matthews, along with the incoming Amanjot Kaur, lifted the run rate up, taking the Indians to 37 runs in the fifth over before Matthews got out, dismissed by Kashvee Gautam.

But this wicket brought in Harmanpreet Kaur, the Mumbai Indians and the Indian Women’s Cricket Team captain. The skipper started her inning at a cautious pace, while Amanjot took charge of scoring boundaries. By the end of the powerplay, the MI-W score was 48/2, which raced up to 88/2 by the end of the 10th.

With 105 runs needed in the final 10 overs, it was now Kaur’s turn to pick the scoring up, which she did in the 11th with a massive six to Renuka Singh.

Harmanpreet and Amanjot took the score to 109/2 in 12 overs before the latter was dismissed on the first ball of the 13th for 40 off 26. This handed the charge of making quick runs to Harman.

Within a few overs, the run rate had caught up with the required rate, as the score at the end of the 16th over was 154/6. At this time, Nicola Carey, who came in after Amanjot Kaur’s dismissal, had started hitting boundaries left, right, and center.

Harmanpreet Kaur brought up her half century in 33 deliveries in the 17th over. With that, she now has the most 50+ scores in WPL history with 10.

At the end of the 19th, the Mumbai Indians were at 188/3, needing only five runs to win. These runs came in just two balls, as Kaur hit a boundary and won her team the game; the Indians won the match by seven wickets with four deliveries to spare.

For her brilliant knock of 71 off 43, Harmanpreet Kaur was named the Player of the Match.

With this match, MI-W now has two wins, one defeat, four points, and a solid net run rate in three games, pushing them up to second on the points table.
