MI Defeated SRH By 7 Wickets In IPL 2024
Having been put to bat first, the in-form batting of SRH got off to a decent start. Despite Travis Head being given multiple lifelines at the start and Abhishek Sharma just not firing, the opening pair scored 56 in the powerplay when Sharma lost his wicket.
After that wicket, the floodgates were opened. A returning Mayank Agarwal could score only five runs, then it was Head who was dismissed right before reaching his 50 in the 11th over. The very next over saw an in-form Nitish Kumar Reddy depart after scoring 20. Finally, Heinrick Klanssen went back as soon as he came onto the pitch to bring the score to 96/5.
Unfortunately for the Sunrisers, the wickets kept falling. Shahbaz Ahmed was dismissed for 10 in the 16th over. The same over saw Marco Jansen depart too, and Abdul Samad failed to fire as well to bring the score to 136/8 at the end of the 17th over.
With just three overs remaining, it was captain Pat Cummins who brought things under control with some death-over slogging. He teamed up with Impact Player Sanvir Singh to bring the team to 173 runs at the end of the 20th.
The Mumbai Indians got off to a rocky start, losing the wickets of Iswhan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Naman Dhir in the first five overs. With the score at 31/3, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma arrived on the pitch.
Not only did these two stabilize the inning, but they also gave a necessary boost to the run rate. While Tilak Varma looked to keep his wicket and stay on the crease, Suryakumar Yadav started doing Suryakumar Yadav things after some time on the pitch.
These two had things under control, as it never looked in the latter stages of this partnership that MI could lose the match.
Surya first reached his 50 and then reached his 100, only the second in his IPL career. Not losing any more wickets, MI reached the 174-run target in just 17.2 overs, comfortably winning the match at the end. SKY was named the Player of the Match for his 102-off-51.
This loss complicates things for the Sunrisers. Following that result, SRH becomes one of three teams with 12 points in 11 matches looking for the two remaining playoff spots. They are currently fourth on the table. Their next match will be against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 8 in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
As for the Mumbai Indians, their playoff chances, despite the win, are slim at best. The Indians are ninth on the table with eight points in 12 matches. They will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match on May 11 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
