Lockie Ferguson is a New Zealand cricketer and a right-arm fast bowler who plays for the national team and Auckland in first-class cricket. In the 2019 Cricket World Cup, he took 21 wickets at under 20 runs per wicket with an economy of 4.88. He debuted in ODIs in December 2016 against Australia, taking David Warner’s wicket in his first over.

He has been a regular in New Zealand’s white-ball teams, taking 11 wickets in three ODIs against Pakistan in 2018 and six in two ODIs against Sri Lanka in early 2019. His Test debut came against Australia in late 2019 but was cut short by a calf injury.

Ferguson has played T20 cricket in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Gujarat Titans, in The Hundred for Manchester Originals and Welsh Fire, and in county cricket for Derbyshire.

Lockie Ferguson Records and Achievements

Lockie Ferguson has achieved notable milestones across formats for New Zealand. He made his ODI debut against Australia on 4 December 2016 and his T20I debut against Bangladesh on 3 January 2017, taking wickets with his first two deliveries in the match.

He earned his first Test cap on 12 December 2019 against Australia. Ferguson reached his 50th ODI wicket during the 2019 Cricket World Cup and was named the ICC’s rising star of the New Zealand squad, also making the ICC Team of the Tournament.

He took his first T20I five-wicket haul on 27 November 2020 against the West Indies. Ferguson was selected for New Zealand’s squads in major ICC tournaments, including the 2021 and 2024 ICC T20 World Cups.

He was appointed New Zealand’s ODI captain for the series against Bangladesh in September 2023. On 17 June 2024, he became the first player to bowl four maidens in a Men’s T20 World Cup match, taking 3/0 against Papua New Guinea.

Lockie Ferguson Career Stats

Lockie Ferguson has played one Test match for New Zealand, but didn’t manage to take a wicket there. In ODIs, across 65 matches, he has claimed 99 wickets, including a five-wicket haul with his best bowling figures of 5 for 45. He also has two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul in ODIs.

In T20Is, Ferguson has played 47 games and picked up 70 wickets, with his best being 5 for 21, and has two four-wicket hauls, along with a five-wicket haul. His first-class record is impressive with 165 wickets in 46 matches, including six four-wicket hauls, 11 five-wicket hauls, and one ten-wicket match.

Lockie Ferguson’s Personal Life

Lockie Ferguson impressed in a fast-bowling competition at the Basin Reserve in 2008, coming second by bowling 132 km/h. That early spark hinted at the raw pace he’s known for today.

Being a fast bowler has taken a toll on his body. Ferguson faced stress fractures, torn hamstrings, and a serious foot injury in 2012–13 that almost ended his career. Surgery and rehab helped him fully recover, letting him return stronger.

He made his ODI debut against Australia in 2016, cleaning up David Warner, but had to stop early due to cramp. His IPL journey began in 2017 with Pune, and he later joinedthe  Kolkata Knight Riders. He values the team feeling and being part of a cricketing “family.”

In his personal life, Lockie Ferguson is married to Emma Komocki, a physiotherapist who has been a big support in his cricket career. She’s worked in both the UK and New Zealand with elite sports teams like the Auckland Hearts and the New Zealand Black Sticks.

The couple kept their relationship private and tied the knot in February 2024 at the scenic Man O’ War Wine Estate in Waiheke Island. Emma keeps a low social media profile, which makes her life a bit mysterious to fans.

Lockie Ferguson Contract

Lockie Ferguson had chosen not to take a central contract from New Zealand Cricket that year, but remained committed to representing New Zealand. He wanted to balance playing for his country with participating in global franchise leagues.

Some New Zealand stars, like Trent Boult and Adam Milne, had also moved away from full-time contracts to focus on franchise cricket. Ferguson explained that playing for New Zealand, especially in World Cups, was still very important to him.
