Ian Bishop Asks To Give Shreyas Iyer Credit: Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop feels that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer does not get enough credit for his team’s spectacular IPL 2024 season, which sees them currently at the top of the league table.
KKR took on the Lucknow Super Giants in their most recent game. While batting first, the two-time champions put up a massive total of 235. In response, Lucknow was restricted to just 137 due to brilliant bowling by the Knight Riders. KKR won the match by 98 runs.
In 11 matches this season, KKR has won eight and has 16 points on the table. They have now pipped the Rajasthan Royals for the top spot. However, RR too has 16 points and has played one fewer game.
Not only has KKR been one of the most explosive batting sides not only this season but in the history of the IPL, but their incredible bowling has also won them a few matches.
Team captain Shreyas Iyer missed the previous season due to injury. In his place, Nitish Rana did not do the best job, as the side finished seventh. But the biggest change in the team is their new mentor, Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir, who captained KKR to their two IPL titles a decade ago, returned to the team as a mentor after two successful seasons as the mentor of LSG. Under his guidance, the team has made several tweaks to their strategies, most of which have paid off.

Ian Bishop, who had a decade-long international career before becoming one of the most respected commentators on the game, believes that Gautam Gambhir might be getting the credit that Iyer should get for KKR’s incredible season.
Bishop recently took to X to remind everyone of how Shreyas Iyer replaced Gambhir as the captain of the Delhi Capitals and turned the team’s fortunes around.
“Shreyas became DC captain in 2018 when GG stepped down after DC lost 5 of the first 6 games. He then went on to question why Gambhir should get all the praise when KKR wins by Shreys and get all the blame for a loss, he wrote:
“So GG gets the praise when they win. Shreyas gets the blame if they lose? Or will you say it’s GG’s fault too if they lose?”
Currently, on top of the table, KKR will face the Mumbai Indians in their next match on May 11 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
