Harbhajan Singh on Virat Kohli: Amid the reports that the BCCI is strongly considering dropping Virat Kohli from India’s T20 World Cup squad, former spinner Harbhajan Singh has given his backing to the 35-year-old superstar cricketer. Not only support, but Harbhajan also backed Kohli to propel RCB to its maiden IPL title and India to their second T20 World Cup title in the coming months.
Earlier this week, a report in The Telegraph India shocked everyone as it said the BCCI doesn’t feel Virat Kohli’s T20 game is suited for the slow pitches in the West Indies, where the T20 World Cup will be played in June, and that he needs to up his strike rate to meet the demands of the team.
It has been learned that Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI chief selector, spoke with Virat Kohli about his strike rate, in particular at the start of his innings, in the shortest format as well.
Speaking with News24 Sports, Harbhajan Singh has now shown his support for his former teammate. Kohli is the only player in history to be twice named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup and is the leading run-scorer in the competition. He is also the leading scorer in IPL history.

Harbhajan Singh hailed Kohli for his passion for the game. He feels Kohli would strongly want to own the next few months, win RCB an IPL title, and win India the T20 World Cup trophy.
“Cricket is the most essential thing for Virat. He is also a family man. Virat hasn’t played cricket for a long time, but whenever he returns to the field, we will see old Kohli,”
Harbhajan said.
“He would be hoping to lead India to the ICC T20 World Cup title and Royal Challengers Bangalore to IPL success. The entire country is waiting for the World Cup success in June. I want the likes of Virat, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah to bring the cup to India,”
he added.
Kohli has currently been on a break for personal reasons and missed the Test series against England. He will make a comeback in the IPL in 2024.
