England Squad for T20 World Cup 2024: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named Jofra Archer in the 15-man preliminary squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Archer last played top-level cricket in May last year in the IPL and has since been recovering from a long-standing elbow injury that has derailed his career since 2021. He’s now been cleared by the ECB’s medical team to be able to return to international cricket. Archer is likely to make his comeback through the T20I series against Pakistan, starting May 22.
As England Squad for T20 World Cup 2024, Jos Buttler’s England team is the defending champions, having won the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy in Australia by defeating India in the semi-final and Pakistan in the final.
Along with Jofra Archer, fast bowler Chris Jordan has also been recalled to the side. Jordan was part of the T20 World Cup-winning England team a couple of years ago in Australia.
England have added uncapped left-arm spinner Tom Hartley to their squad, expecting dry, spin-friendly surfaces in the West Indies. The return of Archer and Jordan meant Chris Woakes had been omitted from the squad.
Ben Stokes, who hit a fifty in the final two years ago at the MCG against Pakistan, had already made himself unavailable for the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup to manage his workload following a knee operation.

Mark Wood, who opted out of the IPL, will continue to spearhead the England pace attack. Returning to action will also be Harry Brook after the England batter pulled out of the 5-Test series against India and the IPL due to the passing of his grandmother.

Phil Salt, who has taken the IPL by storm for KKR, will also miss the playoffs should KKR make it, which is looking likely.
