Dinesh Karthik Names Rinku Singh As Inspiration: Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik named Rinku Singh in a cheeky remark following a match-winning cameo against the Punjab Kings in IPL 2024.
Karthik played the finisher’s role in RCB’s recent match against the Punjab Kings, where, he scored an impressive 28 runs in just 10 balls. When 11 runs were needed in the last over, he took only 2 balls to take his side home.
Questions surrounding the 38-year-old’s lack of recent playing time hounded not only RCB’s premier wicketkeeper but the franchise as a whole. But in last night’s match, he showed why he made it to the T20 World Cup squad after reinventing himself as a finisher in 2022.

Dinesh Karthik Names Rinku Singh As Inspiration
Following the match, IPL’s social media accounts posted a video of Dinesh Karthik talking about his cameo innings and how his style of play was inspired by Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh, he said –
“I am inspired by Rinku Singh and how well he is batting. So, there have been some terrific people I have been watching and learning from them. Jokes apart, it is a situation that I have practiced quite a bit. Credit to my coach, who has been working with me for over a decade now.”
While Karthik might just be joking here, Rinku Singh is one of the most prolific Indian finishers in recent times. Arguably one of the best T20 finishers today, he is an essential piece of KKR’s puzzle this season/
Rinku has slotted into Dinesh Karthik’s position on the Indian T20 side following the latter’s dismal IPL 2023, where he scored just 140 runs in 13 games.
Now that the 2024 T20 World Cup is ahead of us, Dinesh Karthik will be looking to make his way back into the national side.
After getting their first win in IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next face Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 10 of the league on Friday, MArh 29 in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
