CSK vs LSG Match Highlights And Report-IPL: Lucknow Super Giants’ Marcus Stoinis produced an all-time great IPL knock—the highest score in a successful run-chase in IPL history—to breach Chennai Super Kings fortress in a high-scoring encounter at Chepauk. This meant that CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s second IPL century went in vain.
CSK had won three out of their first three home games this season and were banking on another potential home win to overcome the loss against LSG in Lucknow three nights ago. But Stoinis stood in the way to ace the chase of 211 with his 124* (63). This result meant LSG moved up to the fourth spot in the points table, pushing CSK down to fifth.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and, with Dew in mind, elected to bowl first. At one end, Gaikwad started aggressively with a flurry of fours, but at the other end, LSG struck with the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell. CSK finished the powerplay at 49/2, with Gaikwad looking in great nick at 37 (19).
Then Ravindra Jadeja, promoted to number 4 over Shivam Dube, played a bizarre innings. Even though he hit two fours, he struggled for timing and was eventually dismissed for 16 (19), a knock that CSK might wonder proved costly for them in the end.
Nonetheless, Gaikwad moved on steadily: he got to his fifty in 28 balls and grew more confident. The impetus for CSK’s innings, though, was provided by Dube after Jadeja’s poor innings.
Dube didn’t waste any time and hit Stoinis for a six. The pair then collected 16 runs off Stoinis before Dube muscled a hat-trick of sixes to Yash Thakur. Gaikwad brought up his century, off 55 balls, in the 18th over.
Dube took 17 runs off the 19th over and raised his fifty. He got out in the last over for 66 (27), giving MS Dhoni one ball that he hit to the boundary causing an eruption in Chepauk.

Chasing 211, Quinton de Kock (0 off 3) inside-edged Deepak Chahar onto his stumps, while Rahul (16 off 14) gave a catch to the cover fielder.
Like Gaikwad, Stoinis was sublime and smacked boundaries at will. And like Jadeja, Devdutt Padikkal played a terrible hand, struggling in his innings of 13 (19). At Padikkal’s dismissal, LSG were 88/3 at the 11-over mark, with Stoinis having brought up a 26-ball fifty.
With the required rate going beyond 11, finally Stoinis got an attacking partner in Nicholas Pooran, and the pair rocked on. The CSK pacers leaked 59 runs from overs 13 to 16. Pooran was dismissed for 34 (15) by Pathirana.
But Stoinis has by now gotten into his monster death-over mode. With 47 runs needed in 18 balls, he walloped two sixes to Mustafizur and raised his century in 56 balls; in the 19th over, Stoinis and Hooda creamed three fours to Pathirana.
Even though Mustafizur had 17 runs to defend in the last over, there was a feeling of inevitability that Stoinis would take LSG home. And he did: Stoinis went 6, 4, 4nb, 4. Stoinis and LSG had breached fortress Chepauk in grand fashion, silencing the home crowd with an innings for the ages.
Score summary: Chennai Super Kings 210/4 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 108*, Matt Henry 1/28); Lucknow Super Giants 213/4 in 19.3 overs (Marcus Stoinis 124*, Matheesha Pathirana 2/35). LSG defeated CSK by 6 wickets.
