Chennai Super Kings are trying to bring in England all-rounder Liam Livingstone. They want to trade for him. But Sunrisers Hyderabad have not yet decided on the offer. More than one team and more than one player could be part of this deal.
Hyderabad bought Livingstone for ₹13 crore in the last auction. Before that, he was with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB bought him for ₹8.75 crore in the 2025 mega auction. He played for RCB in IPL 2025 and scored 112 runs in eight matches. In IPL 2026 he played only two games for Hyderabad and made just 15 runs.
There is also talk that CSK could include Khaleel Ahmed in a trade. But that is not fully confirmed. The reason for the doubt is that Hyderabad recently added left-arm fast bowler T Natarajan to their squad. Besides Livingstone, another CSK player is also part of these talks. More than one team and more than one player are involved in the trade.
Khaleel Ahmed has played 19 matches for CSK over the last two seasons. He has taken 17 wickets.
November 17 is the deadline for teams to submit their retention lists. So teams will have to decide on their players soon. The situation around Livingstone’s trade could also become clear before that date. In the meantime, several teams are still talking about a possible Hardik Pandya trade. But Mumbai Indians have not announced any offer yet.
IPL 2027 Retention Deadline Extended to November 17
The IPL has moved the retention deadline for the 2027 season. Teams now have until November 17 to submit their lists of retained and released players. The original date was November 15. That day clashes with the fifth ODI between India and New Zealand. The mini-auction will be held on December 16 in Goa.
After teams send in their lists, the IPL will share the full list of registered players with all franchises. The teams will then pick their shortlists. The final auction list, along with the order of sets, will go out in the week before the auction.
The player registration window closes on November 23. That is a week after the retention window shuts. Teams have until November 27 to ask for extra players. The final list of registered players, with the auction sets, will be sent to teams on December 3.
Two trades have already happened. Delhi Capitals brought back their former captain Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants. Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav went the other way. Delhi also sent fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad. In return, they got leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari.
The dates for the 2027 IPL season are not final yet. In 2024, when the league announced the windows for three seasons, it marked March 14 to May 30 for 2027. In September this year, after the BCCI’s AGM, board secretary Devajit Saikia said the tournament could start around the end of March.
This is the last mini-auction in the current IPL cycle. A mega auction will come before the 2028 season. That mega auction will also start the next media rights cycle. The BCCI has not yet released the tender for the new rights. In 2022, the media rights sold for Rs 48,390.5 crore. That is about US$6.2 billion.
