Carmelo Hayes Looks For His Next Match On SmackDown
The April 26 episode of SmackDown was also Night One of the 2024 WWE Draft. 16 Superstars (and factions) were drafted in four rounds. One of the biggest surprises of the night was when NXT’s Carmelo Hayes was picked as the third overall pick in the third round itself.
The first round saw SmackDown take Bianca Belair as the first pick. RAW then went for Jey Uso. The blue brand then picked Hayes. The round finished when the red brand picked former World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins as the fourth pick.

Carmelo Hayes Looks For Next Match On SmackDown
It was WWE Champion Cody Rhodes who announced SmackDown’s picks for this round. As soon as it ended, the former NXT Champion walked out on the stage and immediately challenged Rhodes to a match, to which the champ agreed.
After all four rounds of the draft concluded for the night, Carmelo Hayes and Cody Rhodes battled in the main event of the show.
Despite losing the match to the established main-roster star, Hayes had a great showing in front of the WWE Universe, many of whom might not have seen him before on NXT.

A couple of days after the show, the 29-year-old took to X to ask his fans to share their thoughts as to which Superstar he should face next.
“Now that #SmackDown is officially my new home, who should I shoot my shot against next?#TakesShotsToMakeShots,” Hayes wrote.
Depending on which side of the face/heel spectrum he falls on the main roster, Carmelo will have a lot of superstars to face in the immediate future. As for his first title on SmackDown, he can start the hunt for the United States Championship as soon as next week.
The 2024 WWE Draft will continue on this week’s Monday Night RAW, as six rounds will see 24 superstars picked for the two shows.
