Co-owner Preity Zinta was, as in every auction, heavily involved in the action throughout the day. PBKS went hard after pacer Harshal Patel, who was released from RCB.
Harshal earned the nickname ‘Purple Patel’ during his record-equalling IPL 2021 campaign when he took 32 wickets, the same as the all-time season record holder Dwayne Bravo. But an ordinary campaign with RCB last season saw him being released. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Harshal, as he saw a little hike in his salary, with Punjab buying him for a whopping ₹ 11.75 crore.

Funnily enough, Rilee Rossouw had gone unsold when he was brought up earlier in the auction. But when his name was recalled in the accelerated round, PBKS and Delhi Capitals got into a fierce bidding war, with the former eventually managing to secure Rossouw’s services for ₹ 8 crore.
The second overseas pick made by the Punjab Kings was England all-rounder Chris Woakes, for ₹ 4.2 crore.

Punjab were desperate to get Rossouw after they had released Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Shashank Singh is likely to get the nod in the XI as a replacement for Shahrukh Khan. PBKS are expecting Harshal Patel to form a strong pace attack with Rabada, Arshdeep, and Curran. PBKS once again have a good team on paper, but would they be able to end their IPL title drought this season?
