Aakash Chopra On Riyan Parag Attacking Too Soon: Former Indian cricketer now broadcaster Aakash Chopra feels that Riyan Parag has been unnecessarily hurrying in his last couple of innings for Rajasthan Royals and feels that the youngster should wait a little before starting to attack.
This has undoubtedly been the breakout season for Riyan Parag. After many seasons with the Royals of not performing to his potential, the Assmese all-rounder finally showed how stylish he can be with the bat in his hand.
Currently third in the Orange Cap race with 318 runs in seven matches, Parag is the highest run scorer for RR this season, a side that is on top of the league and will most likely finish top two.
But the truth is, the 22-year-old could have easily been at the top of this Orange Cap race if he hadn’t inexplicably got out in RR’s last two matches. Against PBKS in what should have been an easy run chase, he was dismissed for 23 while trying to go on the offensive when it was not required.
While against KKR, he got out at 34 for attacking with his strike rate already being around 250. While RR did end up winning both matches, they would have been easier if Riyan Parag had stood at the crease for a little longer.

Aakash Chopra, who can be heard commentating on IPL 2024 for JioCinema, uploaded a preview of RR’s upcoming match against Mumbai Indians on his YouTube channel. While discussing batter to look out for in the match, Chopra named Riyan as one, claiming he has been playing well this season before criticizing his hasty attacking in the last two matches, he said –
“Riyan’s form is very good. When someone is playing well, you should focus on the kid and how he plays this time. Although he was batting well, in the last two innings, it seemed like he was going too hard too soon.”
Riyan Parag will have the opportunity to get that Orange Cap on his head once again as Rajasthan Royals takes on Mumbai Indians tonight in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
