The Delhi Capitals (DC) continue the shakeup of their coaching staff between the IPL 2026 and the upcoming IPL auction, now with the addition of two former bowlers.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra have joined the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for the IPL 2027 season that already includes Indian legends Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.
It is believed that Vaas will be the fast-bowling coach and Mishra the spin-bowling coach for DC for the next season.
It will be Vaas’ maiden foray into IPL coaching. Sri Lanka’s leading wicket-taker among fast bowlers, Vaas claimed 355 scalps in Test cricket and 400 wickets in ODIs. The left-armer featured for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the first three editions of the IPL, including winning the trophy in 2009.
Vaas, 52, has a healthy amount of coaching experience: he has had three separate stints with the Sri Lankan team in the coaching department in 2012-15, 2016-2017, and 2021. He held the coach’s role for the NYS Lagos in the Zim Afro T10 League two years ago and was head coach of the Kandy Royals in this year’s LPL.
Vaas had also been a consultant for New Zealand and Ireland in the past. The former seamer has spent an extensive amount of his post-retirement time as a fast-bowling consultant and academy mentor for Sri Lanka Cricket, developing young fast bowlers on the circuit.
This will also be Mishra’s first coaching job in the IPL, having retired recently. Mishra played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India between 2003 and 2017, during which he picked up 156 wickets.
Mishra had a massive IPL career of 162 matches, featuring for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants. His IPL match was in 2024 for LSG, and he retired last year.
The leg-spinner also holds the record of bagging three IPL hat-tricks, the most by any bowler in IPL history. Overall, Mishra collected 174 victims in the IPL, being the 10th-highest wicket-taker currently.

For IPL 2027, the names of the Delhi Capitals coaches are head coach Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Yuvraj Singh, fast-bowling coach Chaminda Vaas, and spin-bowling coach Amit Mishra. All of them are reported to be on a two-season contract basis, appointed by co-owner Parth Jindal’s JSW Sports.
Earlier, GMR Sports’ Kiran Kumar Grandhi brought in Hemang Badani as the head coach, assistant coach Ian Bell, and Munaf Patel as the bowling coach for IPL 2025 and 2026.
GMR Sports and JSW Sports operate on a two-year rotation basis for the control of operations of the Delhi Capitals men’s and women’s teams.
There is also a feeling among the fans and experts that DC could change their captain, axing Axar Patel. Under Axar, Delhi finished 5th and 6th in the last two IPL seasons, failing to reach the playoffs. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who was traded in by LSG for Kuldeep Yadav, seem to be the frontrunners to be the next DC captain if the owners decide to relieve Axar of his duties.
