Shardul Thakur is an Indian cricketer who plays for Mumbai cricket team and Mumbai Indians. He is a right-handed batter and a right-arm medium pacer. He was part of India’s squads that won the 2018 and 2023 Asia Cup.
He made his IPL debut in 2015 with Kings XI Punjab but played only one match. In 2017, he moved to Rising Pune Supergiant, and then joined Chennai Super Kings in 2018 for INR 2.4 crore. He played there from 2018 to 2021 and won titles in 2018 and 2021.
He returned to CSK in 2024, then joined Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement in 2025 after going unsold. Ahead of IPL 2026, he was traded to Mumbai Indians, becoming his seventh IPL team.

Shardul Thakur’s Personal Life
Shardul Thakur is from Palghar, near Mumbai. His parents, Narendra Thakur and Hansa Thakur, have always supported him. They say he was very bold and fearless even as a kid and always loved playing cricket. He started playing cricket when he was very young, around school time. His parents made sure he kept playing and improving.
One of the biggest examples of his effort is his routine as a student. He used to catch a 4:45 AM local train to travel from Palghar to Mumbai for school and practice. After long practice sessions, he would return home late in the evening. His parents also mentioned that he used to play with patience and learn step by step.
Shardul Thakur’s Contract
Shardul Thakur moved to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026 in a trade deal worth ₹2 crore.
He was earlier with Lucknow Super Giants. In IPL 2025, he actually went unsold in the auction at first, but later LSG signed him as an injury replacement for ₹2 crore. That same contract value was used when Mumbai Indians traded for him.
