Arshdeep Singh is India’s premier left-arm pacer at the moment, especially in limited overs cricket. While many consider him a specialist bowler of the shorter formats, especially in the death overs, the 26-year-old is a proper all-format cricketer, having done well in shorter and longer formats in domestic cricket.
A World Cup champion and one of the best pacers in India, Arshdeep is yet to hit his prime years as a fast-bowler. And so, we haven’t seen his peak yet. Despite being in his youth still, the lanky pacer has years of experience at the highest level.

Arshdeep Singh Career Overview
Arshdeep Singh was born in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, on February 5, 1999, as his Sikh father was posted there. His family moved to Chandigarh soon after his birth, where he attended school and would eventually start playing cricket.
In only a few years of training, Arshdeep emerged as a decent pace bowler and was selected in the India U-19 squad for the 2018 World Cup, which India won. He also did well in domestic under-19 competitions. And so, later that year in the IPL auction, he was picked by Kings XI Punjab (now the Punjab Kings) for the base price of Rs. 20 lakhs.
Year-on-year, Singh made major strides for PBKS in the IPL, improving his stats each season and slowly becoming an integral part of the otherwise underperforming franchise. In 2021, he played 12 matches in the Indian Premier League and took 18 wickets, only one less than teammate Mohammed Shami, having played two fewer games.
Later that year, Arshdeep was named a net bowler for India’s tour to Sri Lanka, but a positive Covid-19 result put a kibosh on his national team chances that year. He would end up making his Indian Cricket Team debut in a T20I against England in Southampton and became the third Indian after Jhulan Goswami and Ajit Agarkar to start his T20I career with a maiden over.
He would play in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup. In the famous win against Pakistan in the World Cup, where Virat Kohli’s heroics saved the day for the Men in Blue, Arshdeep Singh played his role and bowled a brilliant spell of 3/32, dismissing the Pakistani opening duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
In December 2022, Arshdeep would make his ODI debut in New Zealand against the Kiwis. He was left out of the Indian Cricket Team squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup, but was a major part of the 2024 T20 World Cup side. In the USA and the West Indies, the 6’3” pacer would end up being the joint-highest wicket taker with 17 scalps in eight games, would become a part of the Team of the Tournament and play a big role in India winning their first World Cup in 13 years.
In 2025, Arshdeep became India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, leaving Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets in the format for the national team
In the IPL 2025 auction, Arshdeep Singh became the costliest Indian pacer in league history when he was bought for Rs. 18 crore by the Punjab Kings. Most recently in 2025, he has been picked up for the Indian Cricket Team for the Test tour to England and is expected to make his Test debut for the national team.
